In the world of haute horology there is special, extra special and then there is a mould breaking watch like the new Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref. 6002G. This new masterpiece from Patek Philippe combines a grand complication with a case and dial that require the utmost in craftsmanship and artistry. In short, this watch is one of the most complicated ever made.

With a minute repeater with two cathedral gongs and a tourbillon, on the front dial, they indicate standard time and feature a perpetual calendar with a retrograde date and a moonphase display. The rear dials set the stage for astronomical functions: showing the northern sky, sidereal time, and the angular progression and phases of the moon.

On the reverse, the stars are displayed over the course of a sidereal day, as well as having an hour and minute hand showing sidereal time, in contrast to the mean solar time shown on the front of the watch.

The new Sky Moon Tourbillon indicates the moon phases instead of the moon age, and features apertures instead of hands for the day of the week, month, and leap year displays.

The dial of this new Sky Moon Tourbillon is enamel, with the centre in cloisonné, decorated with an Arabesque decoration, while the outer ring is deep blue champlevé enamel.

The most dramatic new aspects of the watch, however, are its stunning and lavishly decorated, richly engraved case and highly complex grand feu enamel dial. Price will only be upon application because Patek Philippe estimates no more than 2-3 of these magnificent watches per year will be made.

Breathtaking work on the case and hands, the enamel dial isn't too shabby either :-d

Not the kind of watch that I'd expect from Patek Philippe, but with the combination of mechanical complexity and its handcrafted nature, truly the "ad astra" (pun unintended) of traditional Swiss watchmaking.

It's the movement that is suposed to be complicated, not the case.
That is the type of design you see on ebay when some one tried to hard to make a watch look expensive.
