Wondering if anyone has experience returning or exchanging a purchase made with skywatches before?
I purchased a Seiko dive watch off the skywatches website and received it earlier this week. The next day I wore the watch while taking my dog for a walk and noticed condensation under the crystal. I emailed skywatches right away but haven't heard back and it's been a few days now. I am quite disappointed to say the least that the $400 Seiko dive watch I received has water inside the case.
I don't think there's anything I can do except strongly advise against buying from skywatches unless you're ok with potential water damage.
i bought a seiko from a middle east dealer before. Something wrong with watch. Brought to local seiko service center. Warranty honored. They fixed the watch for free. Not water damage though.
Sold brand new. I haven't even taken the blue sticker off the back of the case yet. I guess the caveat is that it's a discontinued SKX007. It came with a warranty card, so I'm looking into that as well.
Where in this great big world are you located? What was the temperature and weather conditions when the condensation formed? Has the watch been submerged in water at all? Condensation forming inside watch doesn't mean the seals are compromised, it just means there was enough humidity in the air inside when the case was closed to condense on the inside of the crystal when the correct conditions were met. Seiko should be the faulty party here, not the online retailer. Seiko should correct it in warranty, discontinued or not. Honestly the fix is to just open the case, dry, and close it back up hopefully in a drier less humid environment. This is why Sinn fills many their watch cases with inert argon gas and has a dehumidification capsule in the case. The factory where your SKX was assembled was likey just experiencing a high humidity day when it was built. Anyway its not Sky's fault.
Thanks for your reply, I hope it's an easy fix and there's no real water damage! I've reached out to my local Seiko Service Center and waiting to hear back.
I'm located in Toronto, Canada so definitely different weather/temperature here than where skywatches is located, not to mention it's winter.
The watch was never submerged in water and only worn for about 20 minutes total. I received the watch on Thursday Jan 14 around 5pm. The next morning, 730am on Friday Jan 15, I put the watch on (left the blue sticker on case back intact) to take my dog for a walk, and that's when I noticed the condensation under the crystal. I haven't worn the watch since.
I also own a first gen Seiko Sumo and have never had any issues with condensation over the last ~8 years.
You think you had water ingress in the case and you sent an email. On the strength of getting reply after a few days during a global pandemic, your considered advice is to never deal with that company?
Is it possible you’ve had a dramatic overreaction?
My considered advice is go and have another look for your phone and give them a ring.

I purchased a brand new watch that fogged up underneath the crystal the first time I wore it outside, which leads me to believe there's moisture/water inside the case. I don't think that's normal for a dive watch, or any brand new watch. I'm happy to update my post and give skywatches full credit if they make it right, but so far this has been my experience.
That's quite annoying, I recently had a skx fail in water resistance and it was painful. Personally haven't dealt with Skywatches but have generally heard nice things about them. Tbh its hard to point fingers and it's likely that given it's a discontinued watch it may have been sitting in a warehouse for an extended period of time. Temperature changes and time can wear the gaskets and compromise water resistance. Regardless I think contacting both Skywatches (for a refund if you'd like) and Seiko should be good. Seiko should honour the warranty and hopefully change out the gaskets etc..
Best of luck, hopefully you get to enjoy the skx
I'm with the "not their fault" side. Plenty of retailers have no idea at all the products they sell have defects. They can't open every one to see if they are fully functional before they sell them and I'm willing to bet the first time someone has touched the watch is when they go in the back, get the one the customer wants and opens it up at the counter.
We've ALL bought something from somewhere that did not work properly when you got it home and it's not Wal-Mart's, Target's, Costco's, Sears', Joe Bob's Chevrolet's, or Skywatches' fault. You can't blame the retailer UNLESS they refuse to honor a return policy or warranty of some sort. So it's not like they open up every case back to look inside and accidentally got moisture in it.
Not their fault by a mile and a half.
