Smiths Everest. Bots?

7392 Views 109 Replies 36 Participants Last post by  unicratt
I tried to get an Everest this morning. I was able to put a white one I’m my cart, but the black one was never available. Mistake or are flipper bots now buying them all instantly?

Well, I have to say that it does look good and solid.
As I mentioned, I was not sure about the gilt finish as I always preferred the standard one but in real life it is very subtle and the way it reflects sunlight is very cool.
The dial looks polished/lacquered.

The feeling of the watch itself is definitely not cheap. Not bad at all, let’s wear it for a few days and see.

Ok, I didn't know they were on sale on Ali X as well.

10x seems a lot, I will have to check it out.
It says "free returns" which is more than Timefactors did for me.

I'm a little jaded as I've seen too many cheap Chinese watch cases, and the Smiths is the same.
Maybe I'm jaded seeing "Great Britain" on a watch with a waybill from Asia (WTF?)

SM has some really good fit, finish, crisp edges, tight tolerances, flat planes, nice bracelet, decent movement. Best manufacturing I've seen out of Ali-X. But honestly, most people don't' notice or care.
SM occasionally has some sharp edges (i.e. can't easily pull a nato through without scratching it).
Takes no skill to make a Smiths case. Not anywhere near a european made case. Do people notice? I think not.
Still, smiths has some gorgeous dials (and good lume) - not a bad watch if my movement had worked.

Looks awesome! I'm one of the lucky few who has this one incoming as well. Managed to snag one on my first attempt.

I've been lusting over the gilt dial version for quite a long time... Can't wait!

I was also able to grab one at my first try. I was even able to navigate to the bracelet section to find out if it’s available for purchase. At two minutes after the hour it was sold out. I hope there are no movement issues.

Nicely done. It looked like there was about a 90 second window for the gilt model.

I had the extra fun challenge of 2pm UK time being 3am on Sunday night/Monday morning here in New Zealand.

It is amusing (to me) that folks give Rolex crap for this, but they line up all day every day whenever there’s another TF release.
Line up all day every day at your Rolex AD and you still might not find yourself on an undisclosed list for a potential purchase years down the road that is anything but first come first served. Not even remotely the same thing.

If you are prepared it’s not hard to get.
1. Register an account and be logged in.
2. Make sure your cc details are in auto fill in your browser
3. Go to the product page at 8:57 am and just refresh the page until you see an add to cart button
4. Add to cart and immediately go to check out.

Process takes maybe 30 sec and you should be able to get whatever you want.
THIS ☝ I've followed the process described 6 times and always got what I wanted. I am UK based though, and that could make a difference I suppose.

I was able to get the black everest back in Jan. I made and account and added an address, then had my card details saved so it would auto fill on checkout.

I have a question, can you write great britain on a watch even though it is made in HK?

Great question.

I suspect it's similar to "Made in Germany" which is pretty much meaningless. I'm curious if anyone knows more, though.

It is not worth it. Plenty of similar watches on Aliexpress for half of the price. Also would like to see Eddie change the bottom text for "Made for Great Britain by a Chinese factory".

Of course. Eddie does it. :D

Only when your watch is set to GMT timezone.

I guess the difference is the fact that it does not state "made in" but simply "Great Britain".
Therefore, I don't think it is misleading anybody or breaking any law.

And just for info in the customs paper the watch is declared with strap and case made in HK and movement made in Japan.

Again, those are boring and pointless comments.
The truth is that up until the Smiths Everest arrived into the market, you could only find crappy explorer homages on Ali X. It was the first high quality version of this particular watch and opened the way to everybody that came later.

And as I just replied, it does not say "made in Great Britain", the origin of the watch is stated on their website, on the customs paper and also while new versions are developed Eddie always mentions his HK supplier.

It is unfortunately the reality of our time that most of everything we buy is made in Asia, especially if you are a small operation.
I understand he might be somewhat rude at times and we all want everything ready when we are at the price we want, but if you want to go buy a similar watch on Ali X just go and enjoy it.

Not misleading? What's a consumer meant to assume when seeing "Great Britain" on a product?

This is not true. It was Zeno Explorer and some Traska and Geckota variations. I don't see why my comments is irrelevant. I just want to point out that people should calm down and search for other options too.
This seems like a lot of work to get a watch!
Well, you don't have to bake cookies for an AD. Pick your poison...
Looks like gilt version from the last sale have shipped. Anyone order the white expedition model and have that ship yet?
