...as a WIS, as a carrier of the flame to show non-WIS what great things exist that they don't know about, and thus to buy watches from brands that are simply not found all over the place, what would you buy? You are a soldier in the war against "commonness." The following brands are prohibited:
  • Rolex
  • Omega
  • Patek Philippe
  • Tag
  • JLC
  • Citizen
  • Seiko
  • Fossil
  • Hamilton
  • Invicta
  • Vacheron Constantin
  • Breguet
  • Timex
(The above brands are deemed common because it's my thread and I say so. LOL. The rules of the game are what they are.)

Chose two watches (new, not pre-owned) for each price bracket noted below. At least one watch must be a dive watch. At least two watches must be uncomplicated (no more than a date). At least two watches must be complicated (complication = a piece of information about time, not information about the watch itself). You can specify specific watches or you can specify a brand.

  • <$500
  • $501 - $1,000
  • $1,001 - $3,000
  • $3,001 - $7,000
  • $7,001 - $15,000
  • 15,001 - $35,000

I have to say, that as I write this, I don't know much of what I would choose given the rules. I'll fill in more as I figure them out. I've filled in what I know I would choose right now. I may shift some pieces.

EDIT: Some folks have stated they are confused by the rules. I'll try to put it another way:
You can pick a total of 12 watches. Pick one dive watch, pick two complicated watches and two simple watches. Fill in the remaining seven with whatever you want so long as you have no more than two watches per price range.

My Picks:

  • <$500 - Hager & Obris Morgan
  • $501 - $1,000 - Deep Blue Fleet Dress & Ezteem
  • $1,001 - $3,000 - Nomos & Prim Kupka 40
  • $3,001 - $7,000 - Glashutte Original & Black Belt
  • $7,001 - $15,000 - RGM PS 801 E & Pierre DeRoche Splitrock Chrono
  • 15,001 - $35,000 - Piaget Altiplano (date) & ALS Richard Lange

All the best and have fun.

Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.

<$500 - Who cares?

$501 - $1,000 - Oris & Fortis

$1,001 - $3,000 - Nomos Tangente Sport or something from Alpina

$3,001 - $7,000 - IWC Portuguese or Zenith El Primero or Nomos Zurich Weltzeit (world time)

$7,001 - $15,000 - Glashutte Original PanoMatic Lunar or PanoInverse or Blancpain Fifty Fathoms

15,001 - $35,000 - AP Royal Oak or anything from ALS within the price range

Lots of rules... does this just about do it?

Yep that works. Nice choices, esp the GO Panos.

I really don't see what's so hard about the rules. One dive watch, two complicated watches, one more uncomplicated watch if your dive watch was uncomplicated, and then whatever else you want so long as you end up with two watches in each price bracket. It's not a PhD level game. LOL

The rules are easier than what to pick.

All the best.

each brand has something that fits your criteria I believe. They are true worthy underdogs IMO and great alternatives to the "common"
Quoting someone that I agree with, because I am far too lazy to follow the rules and provide a proper response otherwise
