Thinking about buying one. I’ve owned lots of Canon stuff up to the 1D line and I’m looking for something lighter and smarter.

Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

I demoed one before I bought my Olympus OMD-EM1. The a6000 is a lot of camera for the money but it really depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you are doing video I think you would be better served by the a6500 or some of the Panasonic M43 cameras.

I went for the Olympus over the Sony because of the lenses (and much better ergonomics). The Sony is a small camera until you start putting glass on it (yes, the kit lens is small). You can't cheat physics and because of the bigger sensor and no IBIS the lenses are as big as the equivalent SLR. As a travel camera, it is nearly the same size as my old Nikon DSLR kit and put it in a studio situation and you lose all the ergonomics and quick access buttons of the Nikon.

The Sony has a better menu system and better resolution but for me the gain wasn't worth all the other drawbacks.

The Olympus is unquestionably a smaller and lighter camera system (lenses are cheaper too) and you cant honestly say that about the Sony system.

I own the a6000 and while I am not a pro with it yet, it is the best camera I have ever owned.
The a6000 will have a larger image sensor than the Olympus for better quality images, but the lenses will be more expensive and larger.
I would recommend either the Sony or Olympus based on what you can get for cheaper. For me the Sony had the better deal.

Here are a few example of pictures I took using the a6000 with the kit lens/50mm f/1.1

Thanks for the input and suggestions. I’ve picked up a used a6000 from a user on Fred Miranda’s forum. Looking forward to playing with it.
