Hi folks, just got the FedEx notice that my new Archimede flieger bronzee with vintage lume is on the way. It comes with a nice looking dark brown leather strap, but I intend to build a nice patina on this watch as I want it to look like a vintage military pilot's watch. I would like to have an equally vintage looking military strap for it. I'm thinking either canvas (green/kaki/tan) or distressed leather (tan, light brown). I'm not sure what WW2 pilots were wearing their watches with, I'm imagining some rough hide. Also not sure what colour will look best with the bronze.

Well, my suggestion won't be true to anything historically correct - but bronze watches aren't either, so maybe there's a chance.

I think you should combine your ideas, and have a distressed green leather strap. The right shade of green - it goes VERY nicely with bronze.

Yes I realize they didn't have bronze fliegers back then, the size is also wrong as the real fliegers were 55mm.

I'm not looking for historically accurate, I'm looking for convincingly vintage military.

Check out the C&B "Marina", distressed leather with sort of bronze stitch. Mine has "patina'd" up quite nicely.
Thanks roadie, can't seem to find it on the C&B website, maybe it's not available in 20mm?

There is also a sticky at the top of this forum that lists a number of on line strap vendors for more choices.

Brady Straps, made from sailcloth, might be another choice in a green tinted color.

This was going to be one of my suggesions, too. The Hirsch Terra is about $90, but others have something similar for a lot less. C&B has the Phalanx, which is a fabric in green that gets a used look to it, pretty quickly.
Yeah the Phalanx was my initial choice until I found the a Terra. Got the Terra for $64. the Phalanx is nice, but I still prefer leather over canvas. Now, if this was a watch that can get wet, the the canvas would make sense.
