I think that we're gonna argue hard: everybody has different favourites, some like Strelas, others the original Sturmy, others are fans of the Okeah family...but it would be interesting to see if Ramil says that it's feasible and which are their conditions, what they can do and the minimum quantity.

In this case, I'll open a thread about the Forum watch...they already did it for Vostok last year, it would be great to have a chrono of WUS.
If Volmax could do it I'm sure we could come to some common ground, can't please everyone but maybe enough. The other forum LE models done by other companies have worked out all right.

I would certainly welcome a new forum-watch made by Volmax.

The crucial thing would be getting enough interest and making sure the design satisfied all those concerned.
I know that Craig at Russia2All can organize custom made lots through Volmax and VE, which could be a nice way of getting somebody else to handle all the logistics of payment and shipping.
It is also possible that Irina Maier might be able to do the same, if we wanted to inquire.

I know the chronographs are the apple of everyone's eye, but it might be a better idea to go for a more affordable option. The lower the price, the more people would sign on I suspect.

Maybe people would be interested in a slightly modified 'Sturmanskie' 38mm tribute (first watch in space, not the chronograph)?
We could perhaps request blued hands more similar to the original and a WatchUSeek inscription on the caseback etc?

I think we'd probably need a minimum run of 50 watches, whatever the case.

However, it will contradict their Sturmanskie re-issue offering.. :-d

Bad news! :-(
Can you tell us how is the situation of Vostok?
nobody knows the whole truth - only few people do (e.g.Mr.Tzivilin or his deputies)!! the facts are:
1) Vostok Watch-Makers Inc. (the very last watch-factory in Russia) is announced a bankrupt
2) Mr.Tzivilin (The General Manager, the main share-holder, the CEO and the guy who hold the factory in his fist during last 25 years) is retired
3) The new General Manager has no relation at all to watch-making. He's so called "representative of Ministry of Defence". Actually, he's been working at Vostok for around last 10 years or even more - I do not know exactly.. But his main activity (and the reason why he was chosen as new Manager) is to inspect and approve the quality of devices produced by Vostok for militaries. as you well understand, Vostok produces not only watches, but some other measuring devices for militaries. Unfortunately, his appointment does not mean at all that Ministry of Defence will place regular state order for watches.

BUT

There are people and enthusiasts who are going to keep on production of watches. They founded a company, collected all necessary machinary, employed Vostok's specialists. For how long time will they be able to survive at the market - I do not know, time will tell. But I know that they are intended quite seriuosely as it's easy (as well as stupid!!) to forget and to throw away all knowledge and expirience and long-aged history! Besides, Chistopol is a small town and there's no much opportunity for employment (I know that as me personnally - I lived there for 5 years and actually my watch-expirience started at Vostok factory).

so, situation is not good, as I already mentioned - unpredictable, but still not hopeless!!

I was thinking about a caliber derivate from the 3133: you already have many watches with complication like 24 hours or moonphase, I thought that another one with an extra hand for GMT in the case of a Sturmankie like this one:
unfortunately, under present circumstances in Russia noone will invest money into modification of the movement!

Thanks for this information Ramil, I guess now is the time for all good watch collectors to come to the aid of Vostok by buying as many Amphibians, Komandirskies as possible!

Maybe your future watches design have some influence from us. ;-)
who knows??? here it's possible to find some really rare and interesting stuff that you can hardly find in RUssian meseгms!!!

Just out of curiosity, do Volmax consider taking a custom orders of a small quantity ? (Just thinking aloud for a forum watch :-d)
not a problem at all! if you choose casing that we currently produce (like Strela or Ocean or whatever) and we'll need to agree only design of the dial or hands - minimum 50pc. and can be done during 3-4 months but if you want to have new (or replica??) casing - it will take upto 1 year!!

As would I. I didn't get in on the last forum watch, and I definitely want one of these.

Absolutely. The cheaper the watch, the more people would be able to afford it. Within reason, of course.

Great idea. Uniquely Russian watch with a fabulous history.

An alternative might be the fabled and very scarce Poljot Diver if they can still produce it, with green Superluminova and more modern technology. For reference, see watch #0521 on Mark Gordon's site (www.ussrtime.com).

An inscription on the back would be nice, something to the effect of "WUS Russian Watch Forum 2010". I strongly suspect we'd need Ernie's approval for that one. I wouldn't even mind seeing something very brief "WUS 2010" or something like it below the hands on the dial if it wouldn't be too cluttered. On the diver, it could take the place of the "23 JEWELS".

Does that mean that Volmax doesn't produce watches in Russia any more? I was under the impression that you guys were still in the First Moscow Watch Factory complex.

I'm very sad to hear this...

They seemed to be doing well, with the new Komandirskie and Amphibia lines being watches of great quality and design :-(

It would be a shame for them to go down while they were making great watches o|

Actually I thought that the new Volmax Sturmanskie remake could be the basis for our forum watch. :-!
That is, we could get the same dial and case but have different (more historically accurate) hands and a WUS inscription added to it. Perhaps also the older air-force logo and have 1MWF added. Those should be easy, as they are just printing.
This way it would not take as long to make and would not be as expensive as a completely new watch.

This sounds good the only thing I'd add is maybe a dial without a date? and make the WUS inscription in Russian/cyrillic

Another idea:we can make a WUS winged logo similar to the one of the VVS with the three characters W U and S in cyrillic in the middle of the shield.

Of course the watch should be with no date.
