I REALLY like the look of these two watches...

On the one hand, the 7700 is a great looking G-shock with a nice traditional display, yet on the other hand the 7710 looks really cool with its reverse display. I'm not going to fall into the trap of buying both! :)

7710 -- cool display, just concerned I'll have trouble with the legibility at times. Is this a legitimate concern, even with the contrast control?

7700 -- also cool, has normal display, so I know I won't ever have a problem reading it.

I know both watches have the same feature set. Given this, what other factors do you like about the 7710 or 7700? Anything in terms of aesthetics... like external bezel, strap, etc.? Which one do you prefer and why?

I'm stuck... Help me decide, you cool G-Shockers! :)

7710 no doubt - had the 7700 too but sold it - the bezel is just too shiny and I never liked the 3 colors on the display - the 7710 is more monochromatic and looks way cooler. Legibility is a non-issue on the 7710 as it has one of the very best negative displays around:

Comparison with some other negative display G-Shocks:

G-7710 wins - hands down.
What I like about it:
- loud alarm with unique sound
- very fast response of the buttons
- easy-to-use buttons
- comfy
- not too big
- adjustable contrast
I like this one so much that I now got 5 of 'em which probably makes it my favourite G according to numbers alone:

Cheers, Sedi :)

7710 is a GREAT watch!!! If you don't want a plain positive display, but aren't sure you want a negative display (even though the 7710 neg display is fantastic), then you can compromise...

The module on that 7710 also seems to be very nice. I'm surprised you didn't include a comparison photo between 7710 and GX-56-4 :)

What puts me off this case type is the bezel construction which causes a gap to show between the metal bits and the resin with the "G-SHOCK" lettering.

It certainly doesn't affect the protection, but feels a bit cheapish to me.

The G-7710/00 series is just great, I consider it the best along with the G-7900 series.

I think the positive display of the G-7700 does a marvelous job, but I'm with Sedis opinion that the shiny bezel and shiny lightbutton look cheesy.

I love my negative G-7710 for its stealthy, yet very legible look and display. I love my G-7710C for the maximum contrast the (literally) dayglowing positive display provides. Lately however, I got a bit tired of negative displays and since I never really liked the gold/brass colour of the G-7710c outer bezel, it was time for a little change.

Wow guys, thanks for your great feedback! And awesome pics!

Especially you Sedi, great collection you have there of 7710 models. b-)

I've been on the fence between the 7700 or 7710, but the coolness factor of the 7710 is now making me lean towards it much more than the 7700.

I think I'm going to go with the 7710!

Waiting for it to be in stock again on Amazon, then I'm gonna use my $25 Amazon gift certificate to pull the trigger on this watch and lower the price even more! :-!

I'm reviving this thread. :)
I have just bought a 7710 a few weeks ago.
Aesthetically I find it very appealing but I couldn't get used to the negative display; even with max. contrast I had trouble reading the display, especially in low light conditions, meaning that I ended up selling it.
I liked the watch though. The only major con for me is not having the local time available while using the stopwatch.
I am now waiting for the 7700; I'll let you know my impressions as it arrives.
