Hello. Definitely getting a Suunto Core, but while I want the all-black, I'd much rather have a readable watch. I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of the all-black with the contrast on max and no flash (specific I know), or if they can give an honest comment on how easy it is to read in sunlight. I'm aware that the site photos are photoshopped to make it clearer than it is.

If you have a chance, go by a retail store that sells the all black Core and have a first look at it. By default, the display contrast comes set at 6. It has pretty good visibility outside in the day light but you may find it a bit dark indoors. I had to "crack up" the contrast to 9 but that`s already border lining with other symbols becoming visible. Besides this, this is a gorgeous watch.

Sunnto's are not well known for their negative display readability. The all blacks look super cool, but the overall readability isn't the best. The Ambit is cool in this regard. It can be set for a positive or negative display. Generally, I prefer the neg display appearance wise. So, in general watch mode, I use the negative. But, in any other mode, I use the positive as this allows the absolute best readability.

The permanent neg display readability is one of the reasons I sold my military x-lander. Sweet watch! My eyes aren't what they used to be and I just couldn't read what I wanted to, without glasses. The Ambit solved this issue for me.

I concur and wish they would "upgrade" the Core display to make it more legible. The ability to switch displays would also be great. Perhaps in the Core 3 if they ever get around to it.

If you plan on using the watch outside where it is supposed to be used, hiking etc then the display is great. However, using the watch for everyday use the negative display is bloody annoying. Yes it has a light but at certain light levels the light isn't bright enough to assist. Don't get me wrong I love my all black but due to the display I have just bought a regular black. The core has great functionality but not much use if you can't read the watch. I am willing to sacrifice the looks of the all black for the more practical positive display. Anyone thinking of buying this watch try to get the use of one for about a week if possible, then you will know for sure which one to buy. I have adjusted the contrast to 7 but it makes little difference.

Best contrast level is around 7-8. Anything higher, and you will see ghosting at the edges where the second dots are.
