Hello, not sure if this is the right forum for this, please mods move this in case it's not. b-)

I have this movement:

I'm thinking of fitting this into an affordable (ebay/ali) case, get nice hands, watch face etc. How do I know in which case this'll fit? If I want to position the crown to 4...5 o'clock, is it possible? (there's no date window)

Hi nibbler, for some movements this does work. You need to figure out whether the main movement dimensions match closely enough to the movement the case is made for.
E.g. a Hamilton 917/921/923 will fit into some (but not all, in particular not the smallest ones) of the cases made for Unitas 6497/6498 clones (like ETA 6497/6498 or ST3600).
The dimensions I'm aware of are:

  • movement diameter
  • stem height (vertical distance of stem centerline from dial, or whatever the vertical surface locating the movement inside the case is)
  • total movement thickness
