Oris. The price point is very good on oris watches. tags are good watches but start at 795.00 for a quartz, then a aquaracer, add an eta to it and you are now at 1400 for a 300m 41mm diver. Oris can deliver on a automatic tt1 at 44mm, 300m in ti or ss for around 850.00 on bracelet and a 1000m diver for 1100.00 also the williams f-1 is a really good deal that can be had new for 550.00 so the same quality, but better on the price. so thats my opinion. I do however own both.

I own a signature tag, and I say oris without a doubt.. your definately paying for the name and nothing else comparing the two side by side. If considering to own over a long period of time, Tag may hold a better long term value though.

I would definately say Oris. I do agree with Watch-Man7777, and I have a hard time swallowing some of the prices they ask for their Quartz model.

But the one thing I've learnt from collecting watches is. Don't buy based on what we think, buy what your heart desires (this relates to everything actually, not just watches). If you really like the TAG Chrono, then get it. You don't want to regret any of your purchases.

thanks for all the input. don't worry i will never buy anything based on another person's opinion---they're like noses right? everyone should have one. you do seem to pay an inordinate amount for the tag prestige/branding. as long as one is aware of that--fine. i recently saw a 1 yr. old carrera (sic?) auto at watchseller for $1090. seemed like a good deal. it's already gone i believe. thanks again

revkb:thanks

oris makes very good watches which are good value for the money. My advice would be to look for a second hand used Tag or a vintage Heuer which can bring you lots of satisfaction, good luck in the watch hunt.

Well I've not had much to do with Oris, and love Tag Heuers, but I wouldn't pay anywhere near retail for one. Assuming the quality is as has been indicated here, Oris would seem far more reasonable.

I only own a Tag, and wouldn't sell it for triple it's retail. Apart from the fact it was a gift, I love it so much. That being said, with my limited experience with Oris.... I think Oris is a better value for the money. There is a clear price difference (on average) between the two companies, but less of a quality difference that I can sense. Personally, the Tag Carrera fit my lifestyle better, but I wouldn't hesitate to say Oris is a better bang for the buck.

Oris hands down, Tag is as of now about mass producing watches not crafting great timepieces. Oris makes Mechanical watches and only mechanical wathes, the way it should be!!

Most watch companies are about mass producing watches. Tag has a lower end quartz that they sell. Nothing wrong w/ that at all. Breitling,Omega, and Rolex also sell quartz models. I really like the F1 and think it is a great "intro" watch into tags.
