Watch Analog watch Light Blue Gesture

They're both great companies, I think we would all agree on that. But considering the price difference (with Tag being on the more expensive end), is it really worth the extra $? (This is not a discussion related to specific models but the BRAND OVERALL!)

I've had many Oris watches, but a Tag is next on my list. Which do you prefer and WHY?

Oris hands down. You can argue that Oris is charging too much for Elabore grade SW200s, the answer to that is negotiate, GM, or buy them used where they all lose half their value. If Oris MSRPs are "excessive" then Tag's are ridiculous. $3,000 for solar quartz,

The 300M autos with that same Sellita are $3400. Also, FWIW, Oris never lied about a Seiko chronograph being "100% in-house." Generally Oris is pretty forthcoming about things like that, they readily admit that they designed Cal 400 for example, but they don't actually make it themselves.

Oris also never made a big marketing splash about their new revolutionary Isograph hairspring, only to then figure out that they couldn't actually make them at scale, recall all the watches that used them, and then memory hole the whole thing as if they never existed at all. You'd think that'd be the kind of thing you figure out before you launch a watch - "can we actually do this?" not after you launch a watch.

The Cal 400 Aquis is about $1800-2000 on the secondary market. Tag has absolutely no answer for that.
Very true.... For the price of a Quartz Aquaracer I could acquire a much nicer Aquis.

Maybe..... But someone trying to decide between a Big Crown Pointer Date and an Autavia sure may be torn between the two.

ORIS is Omega level quality and their watches run within COSC standards. ORIS is the best watch for the money. I own a Tag and I would rate it lower than Tissot. Check out the performance of my two Aquis.

Wow.... Lower than a Tissot? Bro that's below the belt LOL.....

Honestly these comments have got me strongly questioning my desire to buy an Aquaracer. Seriously second guessing myself now!

Straight garbage. Wife gave me a cal. 6 F1 and it has been to LVMH twice and to a local watchmaker an additional time. I wouldn't buy a Tag at half price.
Interesting because this post (when I put it on Facebook) had several similar complaints about the Formula line in general.

Oris 100% of the time, any time despite not liking their pricing policy, charging so much for an entry level SW200-1. Oris also has pretty poor resale value/value retention.

However, in my opinion, Tag is just far worse, I see them as the DW and MVMT of mechanical watches, plenty of marketing, low on value.
Yup. I've noticed. Buy an Oris 400 for 4k and the second you walk away with it, it's value has depreciated to 2k.

Oris for me. The Oris Propilot X is fire 🔥 as the kids say. The Big crown is pretty cool too.

I do like the new Tag Heuer Chronograph buts it's a throw back to Heuer. I'm also a fan of the Monaco but the version with only Heuer on the dial.
My next Oris is gonna be a ProPilot fo' sho'

I know the Chinese will replicate anything (including an Oris) but at least the likelihood of buying an Oris Rep off of someone is far less likely than a Tag. I honestly don't know if I would ever buy a Tag off of eBay for that very reason. Far too many horror stories.

I guess I’m lost on what this is supposed to be arguing relative to the original point. I said that for $1k to $1500 Oris does not offer a measurable “quality” increase over entry level quartz TAGs. I haven’t seen evidence that disagrees with that presented. I’m not impressed by a bog standard sellita and I don’t think it represents any kind of significant “quality”. I like the watches just great, but I don’t pretend they’re something they aren’t.

I do agree that for twice as much you can get a more traditionally “high quality” watch from Oris, and probably even that a comparable TAG would cost more. For $4k, I would probably also be shopping at Oris, but this conversation, if we were having it, was started by you.

I still contend that for around a grand, I don’t see much of a quality difference between an sw200 powered entry level Oris or quartz powered TAG for the same money. I’d say you could give points to each and that hand waving “quality” away in this segment as if it ends the conversation because Oris is more of a WIS brand is nonsensical crap that we do way too often on this forum.
👉Shed some light on something for me.... What does "WIS" stand for? I've seen that several times at different places in various posts. 👈

Congrats! It will be interesting to read your reviews, especially after the “honeymoon” period. I have found my TAG to be extremely accurate, in fact one of my most accurate automatics. My brother swears by TAG. He has 4 I think, and his preference is for the quartz models. He loves ‘em and they look good.

But I really think, after you have this a while, maybe you’ll find you have room for a companion watch. Maybe an Oris…

After all, whenever there is a “this watch or that one” thread, the WUS advice is always “why not both?”

Hope you enjoy your new addition!

Oh, I've got several Oris Aquis (4 in fact).... That's what inspired my post. With all the hype I keep hearing over Tag I figured it was finally time to give them a shot.

Gotta' admit though.... looking at these pics, gotta say the color choices of Oris are very very difficult to beat.
