In the past, Tag had made some major awful design decisions and design homaging. Now Tag only got Monaco & Carrera that’s worth mentioning. Autavia line although it is nice looking but it had lost its soul, no clear relation to its history. ORIS is a better brand in comparison purely they made less bad decision. Offer better prices too.

Oris and its not close for me. I would buy an Aquis without hesitation. I was shocked when i tried one on just for kicks a few weeks back. Quality felt on par with the Omega Seamaster I used to have and not far behind Sub/Explorer II style Rolex. To get the deep almost fume style dial in the sub 4k price point is hard to believe especially with the new 400 in house movement. I do like some of the autavia line, but for the most part I do not see the appeal or quality of Tag in anything besides the name.

Tag has more watches i like personally. arguing which one is better for the cost is a tough one but since i like the Tag models like the Formula 1 and carrera more, i'd lean towrads them simply because you value what you like more!

Watch Analog watch Clock Everyday carry Wrist

I have never owned an Oris, but I have handled a few. I have owned several TAGs. I currently have a Cal 1887 Carrera Chronograph, and (though it is too big for me) it is a remarkably accurate watch. I’ve found it to be solid and the strap with clasp is really nice. TAG gets a bad rap around here a lot, I think, but they are pretty solid watches.

I think on their best days, both can be amazing brands. I grew up on and have owned a number of Tag Heuer pieces, so for me Tag wins out, but I don’t underestimate Oris. They have made some very cool watches recently, especially the In-House models.

Oris 100% of the time, any time despite not liking their pricing policy, charging so much for an entry level SW200-1. Oris also has pretty poor resale value/value retention.

However, in my opinion, Tag is just far worse, I see them as the DW and MVMT of mechanical watches, plenty of marketing, low on value.

ORIS seems to be run by people who enjoy watches and like making innovative products.

TAG seems to be run by people who don’t realize that it is a watch company. They have some of the most iconic watches and best history … and don’t capitalize on this at all. It’s almost criminal how poorly run the brand is.

I like a lot of Oris models. Tag? Not so much. Vintage Heuer, yes.

I‘m interested to see what Carole Forestier-Kasapi comes up with for new movements. She‘s a real watchmaker and I was very surprised to see her go to Tag. I assume they made an offer she couldn‘t refuse, but I expect Tag to release quality in-house movements soon.

No comparison, whatsoever. Oris by a mile, every day of the week and ten times on Sunday.

But then again, it depends on what you're after. If you want a watch that 19yo sorority girls and aspiring rappers at the bar happy hour might recognize, obviously go with TAG. If you want something that's actually a quality timepiece and worth the MSRP, then it's not even a question between the two.

I purchased an Oris Aquis in a Tokyo GM shop new for roughly $950. I consider this the greatest steal of a watch purchase I've ever made. The bracelet is gorgeous. The ceramic bezel shines magically. No, it's not on par with my Omega PO or 126610ln, but for $950??? It's my go-to "bar" watch on the weekend when I think I might be staggering by the end of the night. Sure, my female cousins look at it and go, "WHAT THE F*** IS AN ORIS???" But I didn't purchase the Aquis for them.

I once purchased a TAG Aquaracer from a GM shop for $1700. I looked it over for about five minutes. I put it away. I came back an hour later and played with it for another five minutes. Then I promptly shipped it back for a refund. S**tty ceramic, horribly s**tty bracelet with a cheap clasp and push pins (on a $2600 watch??), and on top of all of that the movement was busted.

TAG makes some flashy watches and that might've appealed to me twenty years ago, but if I'm spending my hard-earned money then I want my money's worth. I've said it before, for $750 I'd happily buy the new AR with the two-tone bezel, especially one in blue, to be my travel beater. But there's now way in hell that watch is worth four-figures. Ever.

Are you actually planning to buy a company? Or a watch?

Or if you buy "value", are you shopping for entry level models or the high end? I bet Tag has the highest value tourbillon in the high end brand world. Nobody comes even close and I don't know if Oris even makes one.

If you are shopping in the quartz / entry level, whatever floats your boat. High end brands are generally very bad value.

Maybe..... But someone trying to decide between a Big Crown Pointer Date and an Autavia sure may be torn between the two.
Or.... As my pic collage shows..... Between an Aquis and a Calibre 5. Tough call imo
I'd take the pointer date over the Autavia, and I'd take the calibre 5 over the aquis. So it'll be situational depending on the actual model.
