Take a Look at This Fake Gold Omega

Fake Constellations coming out of China are getting better and better.

This one has a fake dial (notice how the i in Constellation isnt dotted) as well as incorrect Constellation script.

In this listing the seller tried to flog one for $3000! before it was pulled.

Its powered by a cal 565 which of course never powered Connies. These cockroaches are pulling old Seamaster movements and other lower end line model movements out of their cases and fitting them to the fake cases.

It also has a poorly forged medallion. Also notice how this seller shows only part of the case back which, incidentally, has poorly stamped markings and assay marks and an incorrect responsibility mark. If he showed the complete case you would see a case number that had no relation to the Connie lines of this period.

Apart from the incorrect double T at six oclock, if you look carefully you'll find that the markers have painted inserts and not black onyx. Not all minute indices are in alignment with the applied markers, but youve gotta hand it to them, its capable of fooling many.

Ive reported it and the more reports of this fake the better. There's virtually no gold in the cases at all.

Cheers

I think I remember seeing that one...

It doesn't have the brickwork on the observatory on the caseback either which threw me off since I thought all the solid gold ones did. The dial is very good though.:rodekaart
I guess that goes to show how little a 100% positive Ebay feedback rating counts for...

The biggest crooks on ebay is.... uuuh, ebay !
I would have thought that the back was just over polished on first look... Scary...

Its not only about the percentage but the volume. If someone has 100% with only 78 sales, then its not as good as someone who has 98% with 5000 sales.

I used to sell stuff on ebay. I sold over 500 items and had 98.5% feedback. The other 1.5% were one or two people who didnt read the auction and even though were given refunds, still left sour feedback.
Wow...I just recently joined the Omega owner's club b-) and I've been going through loads of information but I would have never been able to spot a fake like that one...I took a look at the listing and the watch itself looks fantastic. If it had been my type of watch then I would have definitely bid and paid...
A very good fake. The minute and seconds hands are also too short they should extend to the lengh of the dial.

Good spot.

Not true! The hands look to be the correct length for the pie-pan style dial and could be genuine Omega parts. The short hands were a trademark of this particular design. That's part of what makes this fake so deceptive.

In fact, the seconds hand seems to be a tiny bit too long, as it is hanging out over the pie-pan fold. This could be as a result of the fake dial not having the exact dimensions of the original.

Non pie-pan Constellations of the same vintage had the longer hands that went out to the edge of the dial.

Hope this helps,

This one is showing the case number and cal number. Doesn't seem to match a contellation that I can see.
Yes, its at least a franken.

No adjusted script on the bridge, a fake dial, the wrong calibre movement, but, strangely, the case back markings appear correct for a 168.018.

So he's put a cal 565 and fake dial into a correct and genuine case by the looks of it. This model should be powered by a cal 564, have a flat dial and stick hands.

Seems like this fella has access to a little cache of crud and he's mixing and matching, unless he was the hoodwinked by one of his Turkish bretheren.

BTW that listing above still hasnt been pulled. Please report guys before some poor neophyte collector gets diddled!

Regards

Desmond

Auction still up - looks like ebay is ignoring the appeals to discontinue the auction and someone will be hosed in the process.
Makes a mockery of eBay's stated position of being very responsive to such reports eh?

Hosed it is!
