Holy smokes - that's one helluva collection!! What on earth do you keep in the other two boxes?!
Holy smokes - that's one helluva collection!! What on earth do you keep in the other two boxes?!(Here's a pic of one of my 3 watch boxes, with a few December editions, including the new Breitling AVI Corsair, which is a PHENOMENAL watch)
Never heard or seen this brand before. But I must say I love the look of this. I love day date and twelve hour bezels. The only visual turnoff for me is the dial I would prefer more of an applied indices, but either way that's a sharp looking watch. Enjoy it.So this rolled in yesterday. I ordered it last year. Yes, I already have 20 divers (12 branded and eight homemade), but this is way different from anything else, and I really like its retro vibe. (Except for the abysmal bracelet it came on. And did I just say "vibe"?) Did I mention I ordered it last year? (And have another Seizenn, a pilot-type, ordered last year, that hasn't shown up yet.) I've got such a culling job ahead of me that I want to just give it a pass, because percentage-wise, it doesn't make much of a difference. (And I did order it last year.) Thoughts?

Seizenn is a sub-brand of Merkur. (Which, of course, you may not have ever heard of either.) It's a Chinese brand that does somewhat more original designs than most Chinese brands.Never heard or seen this brand before. But I must say I love the look of this. I love day date and twelve hour bezels. The only visual turnoff for me is the dial I would prefer more of an applied indices, but either way that's a sharp looking watch. Enjoy it.
Nice collection, Mediaokra. I like how it's varied in brands, types, complications and roles. It's not every day one sees a speedmaster right next to an accutron (even if it's just the UHF quartz version). The moonphase is also intriguing, at its design reminds of A. Lange & Sohne, but has kanji writing on it. Kudos as well for the 2021 stability ! 👍SOTC 2022

No change from 2021. I thought I might finish at least one of the projects from last year, but, nope.
My watch goals / timeline has changed a little. My daughter's practicum has been delayed so she won't complete her master's until next December. This means my grandfather's Omega Bumpy lives with me and I wait a year to look at something like a Tissot Banana in earnest.
If I happened upon a sub $250 Yema reverse panda Rallygraf, I'd try to sell the Tissot Quickster.

Hey Miklos, nice to see you around !Again, late to the party, but still join if you'll have me. Great to see the familiar "faces" from last year. My SOTC is now the following:
- Omega Planet Ocean 39.5mm: the default daily watch.
- Garmin Instinct: sports watch.
- Casio G-Shock GW-5000: tough and motorcycling watch.
- Seiko Samurai Great White Shark SE (SRPD23): for vacations, swims and lots of great memories.

Last year i joined WPAC, sold 3 watches and bought 1. Part of the watch-detox I also left WUS in May, only checking back irregularly. I do miss the banter here and in other threads, but I don't miss the lust and hunt after new watches. Particularly don't miss the flipping.
So here is the plan. I intend to participate more in WPAC. I do not intend to sell anything. I think maybe I'll buy one watch this year, something a bit better suited to rougher days than the Omega. The Omega will still be my No 1 work and outings watch. But maybe I'll get something different, less flashy, something more quartz, tough and "grab-and-go" accurate. Main candidates are Seiko Astrons SSH093 (white dial) or SSH079 (green dial). Maybe a similar Citizen. Or a metal G-Shock square (MR-G or steel). Definitely not mechanical and not overly expensive as I have a deposit down on a new bike.
Maybe I won't buy a watch at all. Keeping one slot open in the box and in the great oath of WPAC. An option to buy but deciding not to is liberation in itself. The watch-detox has been good, promoted this watch-thing from an obsession to a diversion. I don't have to have each watch I like. And nothing can beat the PO anyway.
Stay strong, brothers!
Miklós
They're very smart at Seizenn, they make you purchase your watches the year before so can't bash them afterwards. So this rolled in yesterday. I ordered it last year. You know, I've been kind of fascinated by Russian watches since I first learned of them. But, for some reason, the price of the basic Vostok amfibia has increased somewhat steadily over the last year or two. Maybe it's a Eurozone-Rouble thing, or just the sellers I'm looking at. I don't know.
That being said, they're still only €129. But I used to see them running around €109 and then going on sale for less.
If you're seeing Amphibia's for 129, you're definitely not looking in the right place... but I'm not going to tell you where to look.🤐
Oh man. That's cruel!
I didn't realize WPAC was like that.
But now that I know it is, I'm also not telling.
Glad I loaded the latest comments, I was going to tell him too. 🤓
I know where you can get Amphibias for 53 dollars new. But this being cruel thing is fun.
Thank you Trias,Nice collection, Mediaokra. I like how it's varied in brands, types, complications and roles. Yes, @Hornet99. Right you are sir. What YOU need to decide is what is right for you here and keep to whatever it was you wanted to achieve.
Good for you and a smart move, IMO. A good idea to take some time to see how it fits into your life and what might be sold once you’ve lived with it for a while.Yes, @Hornet99. Right you are sir.
A couple of days ago I stirred up a lot more of a tempest in a teapot than intended. And today I decided.
Here's the surprise in all of this, BTW. I asked my AD if they would please give me 2 days to reflect on the decision, and they graciously agreed. I didn't see that coming either.
I didn't really reflect too much on the bashing, or the "I hate Rolex for reason X" posts. (BTW, I really like both mercedes AND cathedral hands, so there! LOL). I also didn't spend much time thinking about the enabling posts. I did think a little bit about how having a watch appreciate in value for a change (even if only for the short term) would be nice. But that can change, and we all should know that.
Mostly I reflected (and discussed with my wife) the question of whether I felt some need for this thing, or if I simply thought it would add a bit of additional enjoyment to my impending retirement. That is, would I "like" to have both of my "grails" (achieveable grails mind you, the Patek with the planisphere dial is never happening, LOL) or, would one be superfluous, like one glass of fine wine too many.
Today I brought home my new E36.
Some of you will be happy for me. Some of you think I have bad taste. I think one of you believes my next stop is detox or a slippery slope to heroin, LOL. And all of that is OK. (Well, not the heroin bit. Please be assured that's not happening).
A few of you will be pleased to know that the bracelet has been sized, and the watch was worn on my way home. It will also be worn tomorrow, and if I am lucky on many days in the future.
We do not have to agree on everything. I love the fact that this thread has a bunch of well intended and honorable participants who actually care. Good on all of you.
I'm going to take my time deciding which of my others will be departing, and how. Possibly a sale. More likely a gift. Either way I'll take some time to see which one is getting used the least, and at some point it will be back to 4.
Thanks again to all of you who chimed in about my dilemma, no matter what you had to say!
I wish all of you good health, good fortune, and the strength to keep your personnal challenges in check.
I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Cheers
The lollipop lume ball on the seconds hand is comically large compared to the thin lume on the hands. That alone would be enough to ensure I'd never buy it.So this rolled in yesterday. Thank you, @Trias . It is good to be back. Yes, the goal was (is) to have a diverse array of watches with the smallest number possible.Nice collection, Mediaokra. Hey Miklos, nice to see you around !
Liking your collection, it's contained, and quite DIVErse (). Jokes aside, with an high and low end diver, a smartwatch and a digital beater, you've got a large arsenal of watch functions and roles to play with. And compliments for your discipline.

Jokes aside, if the watch is already purchased and being worn, what's the point of bashing it ? I'm not a fan of the hours bezel, since I typically use divers bezels for applications that last less or around an hour. However, it provides the watch a quite plain aesthetic, which is enforced by the not oversized lume indexes, and the clarity of the hands. So aesthetically, it has an undeniable appeal. Do wear it in good health as they say !![]()
Hmm. Need it.some need
Indeed, we can completely disagree and yet feel like each side's opinion is equally respectable. We're used to that on WPAC. But that implies considering it, and wording it as such.We do not have to agree on everything. I love the fact that this thread has a bunch of well intended and honorable participants who actually care. Good on all of you.
It's good you discussed it with your wife. And today I decided.

Most interesting, a WUS watch ! Thanks for the info.Thank you Trias,
The moonphase is the 2011 WUS Chinese Moonphase SE Project design-by-committee watch.
I think that's the ideal objective of most watch collectors : get more with less, in a way. That's more easily said than done, though.Thank you, @Trias . It is good to be back. Yes, the goal was (is) to have a diverse array of watches with the smallest number possible.
Mainly I'm looking at poljot24.deIf you're seeing Amphibia's for 129, you're definitely not looking in the right place... but I'm not going to tell you where to look.🤐
Him being in Germany will save you about a month or multiple in shipping time also. But, if you're enamoured with accuracy, then Vostok isn't for you. Half a minute per day off should be expected.Mainly I'm looking at poljot24.de
I suppose there are a couple of benefits to paying a bit more there. Julian checks out (and I think somewhat regulates) the movements. Oftentimes you get an extra strap or two. He's willing to service the watches after purchase. Plus he's got a great selection of less-common watches. Frankly, I've heard nothing but good things from him.
But I'm still enamored of the accuracy and relative light weight of quartz (G-Shock). So I don't think even curiosity and quirkiness are enough to get me to purchase a Russian watch right now...
I just really like the Russian engineering philosophy of "If it ain't broke don't fix it. And if you need to fix it, a rock will suffice." Like, there's just something admirable about recognizing your own industrial shortcomings and then finding (relatively simple) workarounds to it.Him being in Germany will save you about a month or multiple in shipping time also. But, if you're enamoured with accuracy, then Vostok isn't for you. Half a minute per day off should be expected.
I appreciate the bashing. An excellent analysis. The watch has an NH36 and was less than 120 dollars. I said the bracelet was abysmal, not nonexistent. (The strap is from another watch.)The lollipop lume ball on the seconds hand is comically large compared to the thin lume on the hands. That alone would be enough to ensure I'd never buy it.
But I also hate 12 hour bezels (although I get why they exist and admit they DO have SOME utility) and I don't like the indices or the lugs. So boxy. Everything is boxy...Reminds me of counting train cars at a railroad crossing. So many boxcars...
Why is the blue of the dial so different from the blue on the hands?
Anyway, to each their own, but that watch has almost nothing going for it. Sorry, not sorry...I hope it has an amazing movement or sells for only 150 bucks or something...they didn't even include a bracelet though, so I'm guessing they cut other corners too. Is the strap REAL rubber at least?
I suppose you could possibly fix a LADA using a rock. I wouldn't try the same with a Vostok... I mean, the pragmatism of Russian engineering has a certain charm no doubt, but don't fall for the "indestructible" rethoric... in the end its still a watch movement with small fragile gears and springs, not a tank that can take any abuse you throw at it.I just really like the Russian engineering philosophy of "If it ain't broke don't fix it. And if you need to fix it, a rock will suffice." Like, there's just something admirable about recognizing your own industrial shortcomings and then finding (relatively simple) workarounds to it.
The part of me that eventually wants to buy an old car to work on is the same part of me that is tempted by a Russian watch just for fun. On the other hand, I suppose working on a Russian watch instead of a car is ultimately a bit easier and probably more environmentally-friendly... But watches also (in spite of joking) don't respond well to being fixed with hammers. Whereas an old car could...
