I cannot in all good conscience condone the abstinence of watch buying. Good day sir.
I guess we will see you in the future then.
Peace. Out.

I vote for a motion to ban this thread. Absolute blasphemy. This is "WatchUSeek", not "WatchUDon'tSeeK".
Not going to be much support for that here, but best of luck anyway.

I'm in for 2023, as 2022 was an epic fail.
Goal is simple. NO purchases for 2023.
Maybe even sell up three of the current group.

Although I haven't done my SOTC post yet... Could I still request a bash? Everyone loves a bash right?

I need some help. This ticks lots of boxes for me...

I love IWC / JLC chopped pilot baton hands. It uses them without feeling like a rip-off homage watch. I like 22mm straps, as long as they don't result in skinny lugs - this avoids that and I have some expensive straps in that size sitting unused.
I don't tend towards date windows and it should be durable. And I don't own a watch that overlaps with this in any way.

The best bash I've come up with on my own is the movement... Seiko NH38, accuracy likely to be poor. But on the flip side, likely durable and replaceable. Oh and it puts me £600 further away from an IWC Mkiv (a watch I've long loved but exists beyond my comfort zone price-wise).

Thanks in advance :)
1.) The movement is the best thing about this watch, but not at that price.
2.) Boring design.
3.) Invisible inner number track.
4.) Don't buy the watch to fit the straps. Buy the straps to fit the watch.
5.) Should have 20mm lug width. Out of proportion.
6.) It costs HOW much??? Seriously???
7.) And finally: it puts me £600 further away from an IWC Mkiv

;)

My wife surprised me with a watch for Christmas.
(Which she has NEVER done before.)
Really like this one, and never expected it.
2023 goals remain the same, with 2 more planned to sell. Hope Christmas was good to all here.
Working on returning the gift watch for various reasons, and can't thank my very understanding wife enough.
2023 goals still intact, and -1 before the new year.

Same here, which makes life somewhat difficult for the wife when she buys gifts for me. Usually we exchange a gift list with each other and that way we at least get something we actually want. The wife bought me a hoodie, which I'd asked for, at Xmas but she unwisely ignored my daughters warnings that I'd not like it. I did not like it 😂😂😂. I do realise that this makes me a nightmare for gift buying......
Agreed on all points.
I may have discovered the best abstinence encouragement to date:
Returning a new purchase that was disappointing in real life via USPS international shipping.
An expensive lesson learned, and only hoping the return gets processed smoothly.

OK. Time for a bash. The Steinhart Ocean 3 Blue has been on my radar for quite some time. Checking my bookmarks, it's the only one I have bookmarked on my office computer.

What do I like:
  • Steinhart - been wanting to try one for quite some time, but don't like Mercedes hands. Some of the Ocean models seem to be all that don't have those.
  • Snowflake hands
  • 12mm thick
  • Blue

Not sure about the bezel. It looks similar to the bezel on the Orient Mako II that was hard to turn and led to its dismissal.

Very underwhelming.
Printed dial, muted blue, Tudor wannabe.
If you're going to buy a watch 4 days into WPAC 2023, maybe raise the bar a notch or two?

I have a strict one in, one out policy. My citizens, one MM LE, and another few watches including my Seiko Sumo black, my ORIS RFDS and Propilot X are all for sale. I just sold my GS for a nice sum and it's my intention to have a few that I really like. My current MM and hopefully the new one.

I also have all my G-Shocks up for sale.

I paid $249 AUD down from $620 AUD, so for a nice Seiko I did alright. If this causes my expulsion from this thread so be it.
This is WPAC - Bashing purchases is what we do. :p

$249 AUD is currently $173 USD
Google shows many for sale now at $189 USD to $216 USD
Seems that MSRP is a bit like a new Invicta.

Thanks for the kind words...... 😊👍

I've got a very loving and supportive family around me if I need help, but none of the stresses I experience are anything major and there are plenty of ways I have to get relief that are significantly more healthy than watches, so rest assured I'll be fine. To be truthful when I took a break before it was very, very big relief......
Best of luck!
I share the same tendencies in relation to everyday stresses. I also am beginning to tire of the whole "watch hobby", and the amount of time that I allow it to consume. Hoping I see my way to the exit soon also!

After reading Hornet's departure post it made me stop and reflect. Even with my WPAC commitment, I still spend way too much time scrolling through watch content. I even had one watch already on my 'Bay watchlist, and one saved for later in my Amazon cart. Seems silly for someone uncomfortable with the number of watches that I already own, and the total dollars invested in them. And this does not even address the wasted hours researching them and seeking them out.
Work and medical stresses have me pretty knotted up, and I know this is what I use as an escape. I need to cut the cord here and find a more productive "escape", or I feel the cycle will only repeat itself...
Thanks for the parting post Hornet.

Holy FOMO, Batman! I just posted this in the deals thread and I might have posted in WPAC last year but I have been tempted by this ugly, ugly watch several times before so bash away!

You can't be serious.
Why would you want to strap a land mine to your wrist?
That thing is horrific.

Still at three sold, and no purchases since joining.
(y)

Wife cleaned out her jewelry box, and a few of her old watches made it into the donation bin.
However, this one fossil watch she had looked a lot like my fossil minimalist watch that died last year, so I rescued it from the bin. Even swapped it onto the mesh band I saved from mine. (The death of that watch spurred the purchasing spree that got out of hand.)
Not really a gift, but not a purchase either. I will "foster" it for a while until she decides to wear it again.

I did however, order a replacement crystal and battery for my vintage Casio sub clone. I rarely wear it now, but having owned it since shortly after college, and wearing it on many dive trips, I can't imagine ever selling it. The mineral crystal shows some pretty good scars, so freshening it up will be like getting a new watch. Got a great deal on a sapphire replacement from a great ebay seller. Will try my hand at making the swap.

(If I've done this wrong, my apologies - I read the intro, but maybe I've misinterpreted. If so, let me know and I'll scurry out of here.)

Help me WPAC, you're my only hope! Stumbled on this thread as I sought help in resisting a watch purchase.

I was (mostly) good in 2022, and only bought one new watch (G-shock, pictured separately), but now I find myself in 2023 longing for a new GMT. Do I need a GMT? Uh, no. The JLC (Reverso Duoface) and Glycine are both dual times. The Ming on the left is the 17.09 with a quickset hour hand. The G-shock is instantly settable to any time zone in the world. Where am I going that I need a different travel watch? Nowhere. But I still want one. I'm thinking about watches with the new Miyota 9075 movement - affordable with the travel functionality that I love.

Anyway, here's the collection shot and the G-shock photos for the full SOTC. The only one I've considered moving along is the Airman Double Twelve. But it's probably been with me the longest and has the battle scars to prove it. So... I don't want to. 😭

Thoughts? Prayers?

That is a pretty cool group of watches.
