The Breitling Chronomat B01 is a better watch than a Rolex Daytona

Full disclosure, I am a big Omega fan and have a few Rolexes in my collection.

I recently picked up a two tone Breitling Chronomat B01 42mm watch. I am blown away by every aspect:

  • Chrono with screwdown crown (not pushers)
  • 200m water resistance
  • Solid lume
  • Dive bezel
  • Date
  • Amazing and comfortable bracelet (not for everyone)
  • In house B01 movement with 70hr power reserve

This is a different (new version is classic) style than a Daytona, but it is just as good if not better of a watch and you can find it easily at ADs with a discount as well.

I know Breitlings loose a ton on resale, but spend $7 - 8k and get a solid watch today vs waiting many years or spend $20k- $40k to get one years from now.

I do not actively have a Daytona, had a older version but compared it in person at a grey dealer the other day. Daytona is amazing on wrist, but the features of the new 42mm chronomat are better at a significantly lower price...

Someday I may get another Daytona in the collection, but I can't see it happening as this fills the spot so well and so much better for me :)

What’s your point?

Why not celebrate your lovely new watch without the need to denigrate another.

If you like it better, that’s good for you.

Others choose their watches for other reasons and for some of them, the Daytona is a better choice.

Neither is arguably “better” for everyone.

A Casio F91 blows them both away on features and accuracy…

I think since it's posted in the Breitling forum, it's fair game to praise a Breitling over its competition. Personally, neither design appeals to me but that's just personal preference.

I prefer the Chronomat B01 42 over the Daytona too. But there are two things that it can improve upon: brushed bezel and much thinner case, 13mm or less. It would be perfect watch for me if they could pull that off

I do not agree with you.
I think that the market is right in valuing the Daytona over that watch.
the thickness and -2/+2 accuracy are determinant even before discussing aesthetics.
That Breitling reference is really outdated even in ice blue Daytona “homage”, but in two tone it is even worse. I blame the bezel shape and bracelet.
Enjoy your watch.
Looking forward for your next topic and sales post after 100 posts

LOL, that is funny! No sales on this site for me (even after the 100 post mark), I try to keep as many keepers as I can :)

Both the Rolex and the Breitling objectively are inferior to pretty much any G-Shock, and the MRG range stomps them into dust. With these luxury brands you're paying for the brand and exclusivity. Your overpriced hunk of metal is marginally better than an even more overpriced hunk, in your opinion...

Gives me Invicta vibes. I can't hang.

I am a massive Breitling fanboy and they make up the most of my collection. I would not compare a chronomat, I have one, with a Daytona. JMHO and your watch is great looking.

Enjoy your watch!
I like these Breitling Chronos , I generally like Breitling (and own one) but sorry it is not better than Daytona and there are no solid formulas to compare watches to begin with. Most criteria are subjective and emotional like the hobby itself.
But since you open the comparison door, come on in and make yourself at home
This one cost less than the Breitling Chrono and uses the same movement, thinner, looks better (yep subjective ),

The Tudor is definitely more timeless, I would agree with you. The issue I have with both of these watches though is they are freaking huge! Both rocking a 22mm lug width as well as having a lug to lug of 50mm, its just a big boy but for the people that can rock either, they are both sick watches.

As far as elegance it doesn’t have it. The crowning achievement of the 4130 is how thin it is. It’s a cool watch but the crown guards, the winding crown, and the bezel are a bit I don’t know. The dial and hands are excellent though.

I think the movements and features in the current breitling line up will age well. I picked up a SOH II with the Tudor movement, and I have hard time finding a reason not to double down with the Navitimer with the chrono movement that Tudor's using

I don't know if its better than the Daytona because I will never have the pleasure of owning the Rolex to make an objective comparison. What I can say is both my B01 equipped Breitling chronographs (an older style Chronomat and a Navitimer) have been paragons of precision and functionality. I don't know if you can buy a better mechanical chronograph.

But Rolex makes the air that goes into their watches from NSFW.

Yes in many ways that Breitling is better.

The Zenith El Primero was a better movement than the newer Daytona, even though Rolex had zenith dumb it down to 28,8.

There are also a thousand threads here on absolute NSFW QC by Rolex.

But none of that matters. Every guy with a pinky ring or a royal family inheritance or a factory making LCD panels for NSFW wants one and they will always be more desired.

Mod Edits: Crass commentary breaking forum rule number 2 changed to NSFW.
