Hallo folks!

After wearing my GW-M5600 today i thought it would be a good idea to sum up the GW-M56XX modules line and its siblings, the G-5600 and its posh uncle, the GW-5000. :)

First the GW-M5600 and a group shot:

Lets begin with the left most, the GW-M5600.
It was the first wave of GW-M5600
It was Multiband 5 (EU/US/JPN)
This watch came out around 2008. Its module number is 3063.
When I saw this, a classic 5600 design with the DW-5000 red stripes and a full solar-atomic capability, I needed one! :)
The main recognition feature is the "-" between the date and month.
Main functions:
- 999h STW
- 60min CDT, not repeating, time is displayed in this mode
- World time
- 5 Alarms and hour signal, time is displayed in this mode
The modes are in this order:
Time->WorldTime->STW->CDT->AL

Some years later Casio updated the GW-M5600 module and created the second wave.
Lets start with the second from left, the G-5600E with module 3160
Like all second wave modules we can see a dot or comma between date and month.
The G-5600E is basicly a GW-M5610 without atomic and with the DW-5600E color scheme.
Features:
- 23:59h STW
- 23:59 CDT, not repeating
- World time
- 4 Alarms + snooze
Mode order:
Time->Worldtime->AL->STW->CDT

The third from left is the current GW-M5610
The features are like in the G-5600E, but with Atomic receiver with module 3159.
The Atomic receiver was updated to Multiband 6 (EU/US/JPN/CN)

The most right watch is the GW-5000
This is a dream for many of the G-shock addicts because of its combination of classic design, metal housing and atomic-solar features.
It has the same module 3159 like the GW-M5610 and the same features.

Some comparation of the backplates:

The GW-M5600 and the GW-M5610 (right) have the same backplate style, a brushed cast-iron like design
For the G-5600E there is the classic stamped metal backplate (middle).
And of course on the left the screw back of the all metal GW-5000 housing.

Some finishing words regarding the resin spares compability:
While GW-M56XX and G-5600E share the same band and bezel, the GW-5000 features the slightly different bezel of the DW-5600E but again the same strap.

My favourite watch of the bunch is the GW-M56XX since its full featured and less precious.
Im more reluctant to scratch a 300$ watch then a 100$ one. :)

Thanks for the review and comparisons, very helpful and informative.

I owned a 5610 in the past and now have the 5000 (which I absolutely love) I would remiss if I did not make the observation that the bands are also different material and not just the bezel.

Have a a fabulous new year.

Nice write up!
I would like to ask something.. I have this G5600 that sports a different module than the G5600E. It shaped like the gw5600j, also solar but has a funny battery gauge in a shape of a fireball.. Will post picture when i have the chance. It was the last piece i got for 2015 though.. Ü

Very useful post, d2mac. THis could save people a lot of cash, as they will be able to instantly zero in on only the Gs they need to get, instead of getting a redonculous number of them... Ah, who am I kidding. They'll likely end up buying more of them.

Very evil post, d2mac...LOL!

Interesting to see that the GWM-5600 (multiband 5) has a few advantages over the 5610.
It also happens to be the watch that I borrowed for a day and then triggered my obsession with G-Shocks :)

Yes, the first G5600 and the GW-5600J are very different and i didnt include them in my writeup.
The GW-5600J was a 2-band receiver and was only able to catch US and Japan signals.
Even the housing was different enough to have no compabilities to the DW-5600E nor the GW-M56XX in bezel or strap.
I cant go more deeply into these models because i dont own one. ;-)

Nice write up!
