When you're the new kid on the block, first impressions are important. That's why Singapore-based watch company Mitch Mason chose the Chronicle as the microbrand's first-ever timepiece - now available via Kickstarter. Inspired by the military field watches of World War II, founder Benedict Ong envisioned a watch built to last, with solid construction and exceptional legibility. When in battle, soldiers were required to coordinate with precision and to be able to read the time at a glance, hence the high-contrast dial seen on the Mitch Mason Chronicle.

The Chronicle is the brand's take on the "daily beater," a watch you can wear comfortably in any setting, from an evening gala to a mountaineering adventure. The proportions are classic: the 316L stainless steel case is a modest 36.5mm in diameter and measures a generous 43.5mm from lug to lug. The hand-brushed finished case is water resistant to 200 meters, fortified by a screw-down crown and stainless steel case back. That same case back features engraved artwork, the Mitch Mason Coat of Arms. This is a watch built to take a beating, and look good while doing it.

The metallic-finished dials provide incredible visual depth due to the two-layer sandwich construction, while numerals 3, 6, 9 and 12 on the matte-finished variants feature as raised Swiss Super-LumiNova markers for added legibility. The dial is protected with a double-domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass with five layers of anti-reflective coating on the underside. And check out the one-of-a-kind pattern on the hour hand. Resembling a knot, this unique design stamp represents Mitch Mason's underlying brand ethos: to bind vintage elements with modern functionality.

Within the Chronicle beats the Miyota 9039 automatic movement, chosen for its quality, reliability and attractive price point. With 28,800bph (4Hz), it features 24 jewels and a 42-hour power reserve.

The Chronicle is available in four colorways: Steel Blue, Jet Black, Desert Sand and Field Grey. The Desert Sand and Field Grey feature a slightly different color scheme with a more vintage feel, in order to pay even closer homage to the 1940s watches that inspired the line. The dials on these Heritage editions are matte and sans logo (to be more period-accurate), simply featuring the Mitch Mason name and printed Arabic numeral hour markers.

The Chronicle is teamed with top-grade interchangeable leather straps, hand-stitched by artisans, and in colors chosen to complement each dial beautifully. Each strap is accompanied with a pair of quick-release spring bars, allowing you to add a strap from the brand's collaboration with Singapore-based bespoke strap maker Yi Leather at an additional price. These straps are completely hand-made, using high-quality vegetable-tanned leather made from traditional methods by the Italian tannery Conceria Walpier.

Every Chronicle will be delivered with a full-grain cowhide leather watch roll, with a canvas inner lining to keep the watch protected. With estimated delivery in May 2021, pledge on Kickstarter today to take advantage of special Super Early Bird pricing starting at $379 USD. You'd better hurry though, because this offer is only available for the first 50 backers.

The robust yet elegant series by Mitch Mason is built with versatility in mind for the modern individual. The Chronicle is designed to cater to all styles and to withstand the punishments of modern living, wherever your adventures may take you.
