Has anyone had experiences whether good or bad on The Real Real? Online reviews are mixed and mostly focus on fashion clothes and bags. I’m more interested in finding out if their watches are legit and in the condition advertised.

Thanks!

There's been a post or two here about people buying from the site so it appears to be legit although there's some anecdotal accounts of how their authentication process allows some fakes to slip through the cracks. Just from what others are saying about it the site appears to be a better bet than FleaBay, but that's not exactly a high bar.

They have authenticators, but their watches are in rough shape generally, or don’t have box/papers. If the price is right though, it wouldn’t stop me from buying from them. You could always return it.

What do you guys suggest for grey market and used?
Grey market... Jomashop, WatchMaxx, PrestigeTime, Ashford... a few ADs have up front discounts like Eli Adam and Watches-Swiss.

Preowned... Chrono24, and our sales forums.

The RealReal is real from my experience. My son got a Planet Ocean from them - in excellent condition and as advertised. I bought my Navitimer from them, but from one of their brick and mortars so I could check it out in person - mint condition at a fair price. No box and papers though (ever?). As I recall they have a reasonable return policy if you’re not happy.

The Real Real has got to have one of the most ridiculous names for a business - no, thanks, I'll stick with Topper or even eBay.

I've bought four watches from the RealReal. A beautiful hard to find 75th anniversary IWC 8 day manual wound from the now closed RealReal store in San Francisco. A beautiful hard to find B&M chronograph from the Real Real in Palo Alto. A Chronoswiss Delphis from the Marin store that I had to send out for repair even though the RealReal mentioned it worked fine. An online Ferragamo mechanical watch purchase that turned out to be quartz (still nice for the price). So to see a watch in person is very important compared to seeing pictures of it online and the RealReal does have some nice watches. So I had a low 50% RealReal success, but still happy with my purchases because the watches are a bit rare. The RealReal sells a lot of older Rolex. The RealReal often mentions that high-end watches need service.

They are legitimate but you have to wade through hundreds of market priced two tone DJs to fund much of interest. In the last twelve months I've purchased three watches and all were as described. I think they are asked to price semi-obscure watches, assign low bids, accidentally buy, then scramble to get rid of them.

Bought my 5th watch from The Real Real. Was located in NY and shipped to CA. Unusual fashion watch from Bottega Veneta. Made from titanium, has a movement from Girard Perregaux and has a gold rotor. Strap is similar to their handbags. The watch face is a challenge, both unique and bit cheap looking, but that makes it interesting. The screw in the middle is fake. It's glued on the glass. I like the date window and seconds dial location. This watch isn't on Chrono24. I love this rare fashion watch!
