We’ve covered CODE41’s popular X41 model before on Watchuseek; now, the company’s released the fourth edition of their signature cutting-edge skeleton watch, which is available for pre-order for a limited time.

The Swiss microbrand, founded by Claudio D’Amore, has grown leaps and bounds since its emergence on Kickstarter in 2016 -- by fusing watchmaking expertise with the voice of the people, CODE41 continues to succeed in producing fine timepieces coveted by watch enthusiasts around the globe. Following three highly-successful editions of the X41, CODE41 has further evolved the line for 2020, most notably with the launch of a brand-new model for Edition 4: the X41 AeroCarbon.

The name, AeroCarbon, refers to the high-density aeronautic carbon fiber used exclusively in the aeronautics and aerospace industry; the blocks of carbon fiber are constructed from 300 very fine layers, each positioned at a 90° angle to the previous, and then compressed under 10 bars of pressure in an autoclave oven. The application of such a meticulous process guarantees the end product is two-and-a-half times more resistant to bending than steel and four times lighter. It’s also watertight without requiring a titanium chamber, as is the case with the more porous carbon fiber typically used in watchmaking.

The slick X41 AeroCarbon case measures 42mm in diameter and 11.7mm thick. The watch weighs 45 grams (without the leather strap), making it two times lighter on the wrist than the Grade 2 Titanium. The signature X41 skeleton dial features the grande date at 12 o’clock. Other functions include hour, minute and second, while the hands and hour markers are coated with high performance LumiNova. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal sits on top and beneath, enabling full exposure of the X41’s inner workings. What’s more, the new AeroCarbon is water resistant to 50 meters as a result of its high-tech case material.

Much like the rest of the watches that CODE41 produces, the exclusive, limited-edition movement of the X41 AeroCarbon is entirely designed and manufactured in Switzerland. In fact, 90% of the new fourth edition X41 is Swiss made, easily exceeding the 60% requirement to earn the “Swiss-made” label. You won't, however, find that designation on any CODE41 watch, since the company prefers their own TTO (or Total Transparency on Origin) label instead, as part of their promise to customers to always be transparent about their watches’ origins.

In total, all 297 components of the X41 AeroCarbon are finished and assembled by hand. The movement contains 33 jewels and has a frequency of 28,800 turns per hour / 4[Hz]. The X41 has a reliable usage accuracy of -2/+10 seconds per day and a 45-hour power reserve. It’s also fitted with an automatic rewinding peripheral weight which guarantees perfect dimensions and finishing. And while we’ve covered the X41’s unique peripheral oscillating weight in the past, it’s a technical feat that bears repeating: revolving around the edge of the movement on a rail and ball bearings, this weight reduces the movement thickness, allowing the watch to showcase more of the X41’s inner beauty, when compared to a traditional rotor.

The X41 has always been a bold series of exceptional timepieces, and the new X41 AeroCarbon is no different, offering customers a mechanical marvel at an affordable price. Claudio D’Amore’s brainchild is, and always has been, a collaborative effort between his team and watch aficionados with a genuine passion for high-end mechanical watches. CODE41’s goal? To democratize the watchmaking process in order to “give the customer what they want” while continuing to provide transparency for the end-consumer.

The high-tech X41 AeroCarbon is also teamed with your choice of an interchangeable strap, from calf leather to a black PVD titanium bracelet. Whichever option you choose, the strap doesn’t require a tool for making changes and is compatible with any model the brand offers.
