Not a long story here. I was going back to my AD to get some pictures of my DOXA's Synchron 58. I had also seen a pretty nice vintage Ball Trainmaster when I went to pick up the DOXA and was going to go back and take a look. They tend to be cheap, and it looked in good condition, so I was going to inquire and go for it. But, when I thought through that this watch had not been serviced and that it was over 50 years old, even though the price was REALLY good when compared to comparable conditioned online sales, once I factored in getting it serviced, it was beyond what I was willing to pay.
However next to it was a watch I had seen before in the display but never thought too much about it because I had only really seen it at angles. And it was quite unimpressive. But now I could see it in full. I'll be honest, I know NOTHING about Eternas, much less vintage Eternas. But boy did it look nice. And the linen dial, while dang near impossible to photograph in a non-crap way, is just amazing in the way it plays with light, very different than different metals, lacquers, enamels but just as playful. And the price was great, well below the low ball I had planned to ask (it pays to get to know your ADs)! And it had been serviced. So I jumped for it. Unfortunately as some of you know, my wrist is huge and the beautiful black lizard strap didn't fit, so I had to use a boring brown calf. Just ordered a black lizard for it (I'll also need to look in my spares as I might have one that fits too) and can't wait to get it on.
I guess the lesson of this episode is a relationship is always worth it.
But anyways, here she is.
I had thought I had dodged a bullet on picking up YET ANOTHER watch too by passing on the Ball . . . sigh . . . I just can't catch a break . . .
God, my sig is getting long. And there's at least two more names to add in the near future . . .
