Hi all,
Just wondering what your opinions are on Oakley watches from 98 up until mid 2000’s.

Some really interested looking pieces they’re quite sought after, but also quite bold and have a kind of futuristic look to them.

would you wear one?

As with all watches…buy and wear what you like.

If you like them and they are in your price range then why not.

They wouldn’t be my choice, but that’s my opinion.

Honestly I've never thought of them.

I don't think I will think of them now.

But if it floats your boat, why not?

Most things Oakley does - at least to me - simply scream, “Look at me…I’m trying to be cool!” They’re not exactly subtle in their designs whether you’re talking watches, sunglasses, or backpacks. Personally, I’m not a fan. That said, they sell a lot of stuff, so apparently there are a lot of folks cooler that I am.

Oakley specifically has a pretty sizeable collector-sphere. They have forums, modders, experts on weird niches within the brand's history, everything we have here. The stuff from the 90's hit peak wild-ness in both design and connection to big personalities like Micheal Jordan, and as such can command many thousands for good examples. The watches fit right in there.

No. I wanted to like them but after seeing them in person and handling them in shopping malls over the years, I really don't like them.

I wanted a watch called the Minute Machine and I only had to hold it for 1 second before handing it back.

Speaking of Oakley, I wonder if people get all weirded out when someone wears Oakley Sunglasses homages?

I have not owned one, but a former boss was a massive fan of the brand. He wore sunglasses, backpack, hat, watch, etc....and owned multiple watches

The primary thing I remember, aside from the edgy designs that were consistently and unapologetically in-line with their brand, was the weight. The 3 or 4 that I tried on were all quite heavy

Any brand whose original purpose is to design and manufacture any other thing than watches is a no-go to me.

Calvin Klein produces jeans, Nautica is into shoes, Hugo Boss sells fragrance and Oakley is mainly into sunglasses. But you could do any permutation of these brands and products and it would probably still be right. That's what we call fashion brands.

I would not buy my medicines from a company that also makes hot dog sausages.

Well, the Y2K aesthetic is back, so a lot of kids are buying (for a pretty penny) a lot of mid 90s to early 2000s stuff like clothing and accessories. Like every trend, it'll pass, although Oakley has a big following regardless of trends.

Personally, I love some of them, like the Blade. I was a teen back then and I've never stopped liking 90s and 2000s stuff, movies and music. Sure, it's peak capitalism and I'm a bit of an anti capitalist these days, but the aesthetic of that era is so ugly yet captivating to me that I can't help but love it.

I think it’s two different things, right? Do I like the watch vs. would I wear the watch.

I wouldn’t wear these watches but I do like the design. I like it not because it’s aesthetically pleasing but it’s weird. Like the Jody’s Erebus dive watch is very milk toast. Or how about “a new Tudor BB but with a different color bezel or dial color?!” In my opinion, watch designs and styling are getting stagnant at almost all price points.

These Oakley’s are peculiar and quirky. The design language is consistent clear with the brand.

Funky, weird, & ugly but in an endearing way.
