Continuing the theme of rare movements from the past (see Part 1), posting another specimen from collection..

Today's post with some not often seen movement from 1810's that was noticed by one colleague.

It will not be just a presentation, but some quiz - What do you think about this movement?

Cylinder escapement, dial size 47 mm, happily runs after cleaning. Under dial view shows very simple design.
It is key-wound via central arbor square. Non-jewelled cylinder escapement with brass escapement wheel, about 1810-20's.

And a signature closeup. Note very special minute marking layout.

What do you think? It's easy =)

IT`s a very interesting piece. The way the indices are arranged around the chapter makes me think the watch only had one hand.Hmmmm....the hole at 12 is for viewing the escape wheel right?

(sorry,already mentioned by enrico,yes one hand........whoopsie.

As Enrico says, it is not a genuine Breguet, but a fake in my opinion.

The fit and finish are definitely not there to be a Breguet. I'm far from a Breguet scholar, but I would also expect to see ruby cylinder.

In terms of bridge layout, it's definitely a lot more convincing than most of the "Breguets" that we see, as at least they went to some effort to duplicate his styling.

Very good, friends, thanks for your comments! :) |>

Although very rare and interesting, that movement doesn't have important Breguet's features:
- overhanging ruby cylinder escapement (100% must-have for Souscriptions)
- pare-chute shock protection
- bimetallic temperature compensation curb
- signature and number
- secret signature on dial

Here is a photo with original approved Breguet from my collection:

That was non-original "Breguet", but I hold it in my collection because it shows really interesting page of A.-L.Breguet history.

Moreover, "Souscription" imitations are even more scarce than original "Souscriptions"!
It's not easy to find the same in collections ;-)

Hi, sorry you lost me. The original watch you posted, really it has:
1) Secret signature on dial?
2) Surely NO Parachute shock protection!

I think not. Really it does not resemble a Breguet as you describe at all.

I'd really like to see the dial on the original (museum-approved) piece...

At first thank you for the nearly "Breguet" souscription and the view beyond the dial...fantastic. For my opinion leave both in one thread as you leave them together in your collection. The difference of making quality is easy to see and it don't harm the orginal. It just explain why Breguet was the most faked watchmaker during his live time :).

Thanks a lot for sharing ....wonderful..simple straight perfect and enough exact time as the owner needs...

Kind regards Silke

As requested, here is a story of original Breguet 3465 dial.

1. As it came to me with all hinges painfully detached.

2. Hand making based on quality pictures from Internet. Milling machine, CAD/CAM/CNC etc

Hand blanks from milling machine, right one partially finished. Many hours spent to finish it well...

3. Today's photo. It's a shame, but I haven't blued it yet. Will have to do it some day.

4. Of course you wanted to see famous A.-L. Breguet's "Secret signature", here is it under 15x microscope. Sorry, couldn't make better..

Dial enamel is intensively worn. I only cleaned surface dirt and will not attempt to restore it some way.
This watch had seen many things for last 190 years...

Excellent watch (and thread), the new hand is a work of art.
I love your minimalistic restoration, surely the way to go with such an interesting and important piece.
Thank you.

Thank you for comments, friends!

I have more Breguet movements with ruby cylinder escapement, but need an assistance to approve/unapprove them from Breguet Museum.
It is important to determine what a story will be, it depends to post or not to post.
