I figure since there is an Expedition Appreciation thread that there should also be an Ironman thread too. I picked this one up the other day on a whim, it is a Timex Ironman T5K198.

my original 1986'er. and its '84 predecessor, the 50M triathlon from '84
Niiice, I've been looking for one of those original marathons on eBay. Yours looks like an amazing specimen.

Right now I only have one - the T5k196. It is a neat watch, good looking and rugged build but the alarm (timer) beeps are so low, that it is under normal circumstances pretty useless to me. I much prefer the Expeditions series for that matter alone, still I like the Ironmans for their low profile and low cost. Can someone recommend me about one or more model(s) with a really loud and audible alarm? The T-49897 and T-49975 are my reference alarm watches, if that should be helpful.

cheers

You are lucky in the USA, Timex watches are really cheap there. :-!

Great watch. And the price in ebay is just bonkers good. And I don't see what is the problem with the'can't see neg display' argument. I can see it pretty well all around.

I know that feeling. In my place, timex price is ± 3-5times more expensive than in the USA.
That's why I always bought all my timex directly from USA, don't care if its must traveled over 10,000 miles.

If Timex watches were sold at the same price in Europe as in the USA (where they are discounted most of the time), they would be a very serious competition for Casio G-Shocks (which are exaggeratedly expensive IMO).

I did a movement swap to get a neg display - for the looks.
(and Indiglo on a neg display is very cool)

But I have to admit that the negative display is more difficult to read in many situations.

Inspired by this thread I'm wearing my combo shock 200m today. I really like the looks of this one, although the minuscule digital window isn't all that practical.

Here are my both trusty running watches. I must have had them for 10 years now, using them several times every week. They've both survived three battery changes and still going strong, still looking fairly new even. (I don't know about WR, never hops in in water with one of these). The black one got a bit famous back in the day during the financial crises when secretary Henry Paulson was seen wearing one on several occasions.

Finally, I have this 8/lap reissue that I've never worn, but it's nice. I would much rather have one of them original specimens seen a few posts up.
