I would have hung on to the GS like grim death. But that’s me rather than you. If you are happier with the Tudor then you made the right move.

They are very different, the Pelagos is the ultimate tool watch. I get why people like the snowflake dial of the GS, but if you don’t do dressy doesn’t make sense. And if you do, still not sure I’m sold on titanium dress watches. On a GS, zaratsu polished stainless seems way more dressy than titanium, and is more of a GS staple to me.

I dig them both but I don't see a negative move especially if you're not utilizing the dressy potential of the GS.

Exactly! The snowflake is what I would consider a “middle ground” between casual and dressy but as time went on, my outfits for work have gotten more casual… so I’m finding it difficult to wear the GS on a daily basis.

It attracts attention with its polished case and isn’t really catered to much “rough work”

Thanks for the replies everyone! Great to see much love for the Tudor as well.

So far I’m loving the pelagos. It’s a hardcore watch, strap it on and forget it’s there to be honest.

I’m a little worried about how much damage the titanium case can take if I truly use it as a beater but only time will tell! (I tend to use my casual watches pretty hard, and at least I know for a fact that some like the Seiko Turtle, Explorer ii etc can hold up without some serious damage)

While taking a stepback and considering my collection, I realised that I have my “dress watch” section covered. (Lange Saxonia, VC 1942), that made me feel that the collection could do with a nice modern diver that’s a little different.

I always loved the blue strap, blue dial combination of my first luxury watch (back in probably 2007?) - a Titanium Breitling Seawolf Avenger… and this is kind of reminiscent of that.

Will still probably pick one up for nostalgic reasons if I can find one in good condition at a good price!

Hmmm, personally I think the GS is a more special watch than the Tudor, but it's not about pleasing me. If you're happy with the trade, that's what matters.

Thanks! Objectively speaking I do think the GS might be a nicer watch.

But I couldn’t hold on to the GS any longer as I simply was not using it. It would be like holding on to a $30k dress watch that I could not use - decided to release the funds to something I can actually wear on a regular basis

I think you made a great choice. I’ve never really understood the Grand Seiko. They seem nice enough to me, but overall incredibly boring.

Both beautiful pieces, but I’d do the same swap. The pelagos is a great watch I’d love to have one myself. The dial in the grand seiko is beautiful, except for that indicator that shall not be named for the sake of god…the main reason why unfortunately I couldn’t have a GS. Wear in good health OP, great addition.

My gosh those are two beautiful watches. Shame you couldn’t have kept both as they are polar opposites but the FXD is a killer piece so I hope you enjoy it!!! 👍👍👍. Bottom line is this thread tells me you have good taste 🤷‍♂️😁😁😁

I thought about it long and hard… but I had my steel/titanium dress watch covered with this. I found them a little too “similar” in a broad sense so couldn’t justify keeping both.

I feel like the FXD is very very slightly too large

It does, the FXD L to L is 52 when it's 47 on the 39 pelagos. That's a very significant difference. I too do think the FXD wears too large for me.
