Recently Larry (aka Uncle Seiko) came out with a Tropic strap reminiscent of the popular Acier Tropic. When I bought my 6105-8110 it came with an Acier as well as its original waffle, and I was impressed by the Acier's comfort and styling. Although it looked in excellent condition, in light of its age I never completely trusted the strap so it languished in the watch box. When I came across Uncle Seiko's Tropic I decided to give it a try, and did a little side by side comparison with the Acier.

As you can see, Uncle Seiko pretty much nailed the look, right down to the slight taper on the long end. The Acier is a bit glossier and a little more pliable, but that could easily be because of its age. The dimensions are very similar. I measured the Uncle Seiko short side at 76mm as compared to the Acier's 85mm, with the long side of the Uncle Seiko making up for the difference at 128mm opposed to the Acier's 122mm. Putting the Uncle Seiko on my 6105-8110 it fit my 7.5 inch wrist very well.

The Uncle Seiko is a perfect fit between the 6105's lugs (fat bars are included). It has good flexibility and was immediately very comfortable on the wrist. I expect it will only improve with use. Larry is known for his customer service; he's quick to respond to questions and shipping was immediate.

Clearly I'm no photographer, but hopefully you get the idea. So, if you're looking for a modern take on a classic strap, consider Uncle Seiko's Tropic. It's available in 20mm and 22mm as well. $39.00 including shipping.

Nice review. I wonder how the US compares with the Watchgecko Tropic.

Over at the Seiko/Citizen WUS forum such comparisons have been made.
it seems that the material used on the US is similar to their waffle straps, which is more plasticky feeling and a bit stiffer than the WG vulcanized rubber.

I have a couple of the WG tropics and they are amongst the most comfortable rubber straps I have tried... I bought a couple of US waffles that I don't wear because I don't quite like the feel...

I guess if you're after the accurate looks the US is the one to choose, but the less accurate WG might be more comfy.

Thanks for your informative response. I've been considering a WG for my Oris Diver 65. I think I'm still leaning that way since I have several of their Rally straps and I'm quite impressed with them.

Cheers,
Jon
