Didn't know Tourneau was AD for Tudors, gotta check 'em out, thx for the info1Tried one on today at a Tourneau. Honestly, was a bit underwhelmed. I think the lighting was too dim in that store and it made the watch seem less vibrant (as far as the colors go) than the pictures online. Construction was rock solid but it felt thick on my admiringly small wrist. Still was one of the more interesting watches I saw in person though.
On Oahu, the only Tudor AD is the Ben Bridge at the Ala Moana Shopping Center.Didn't know Tourneau was AD for Tudors, gotta check 'em out, thx for the info1
Thx mleok! Interesting as the Tourneau site lists Tudor as a brand they carry but perhaps that's old info . . .On Oahu, the only Tudor AD is the Ben Bridge at the Ala Moana Shopping Center.
Tourneau does carry Tudor in Orange County, California, but the brand is being rolled out in a limited fashion, on a store by store basis. So, for example, the Ben Bridge in San Diego doesn't carry Tudor, but the Royal Maui Jewelers does.Thx mleok! Yep, I've noticed that. My Black Bay came from an AD in Colorado, which is not my home state....but the brand is being rolled out in a limited fashion, on a store by store basis.
Yeah. I tried it on at the OC one in South Coast Plaza. The sales person said that it was a new arrival/limited release from Europe (honestly thought it was just sales blabber, guess it was true).Tourneau does carry Tudor in Orange County, California, but the brand is being rolled out in a limited fashion, on a store by store basis. Apologies for the slow reply....Clarky, that bomber strap is a great match! Where did you find it? And what's your wrist size, by the way? I still haven't seen a BB in the flesh and am trying to get a perspective on the size/presence. Looks sharp on your wrist!
For diving I could see this as a concern, but otherwise it's just a like any other watch with no crown guard. It's not a very big crown in relation to other watches.Does anyone who owns one worry about the crown that sticks out with no protection at all?
A ceramic bezel would have totally ruined the vintage vibe that is the raison d'etre for the Black Bay.Handled one at my local AD. If it was 300M with a ceramic bezel I would have been hooked. Left the store slightly disappointed.
904L steel is a hallmark of Rolex watches, and none of the Tudors use 904L.Tried it on at my AD.
Looks -
The watch looks beautiful. Understated, elegant, classy yet sporty. They have really nailed the balance here. The highlights around the markers are just superb
Feel -
The small touches like beveled edges and ceramic balls in deployment are very neat. The clasp feels super solid.
A few notes -
I was dissapointed to find out that the watch does not have 904l steel and has 316l. Sure the benefits of 904 are not night and day and its just a technical thing for most, but coming from Rolex, since its made by them, I was assuming it would have 904.
Second, lume didnt seem that strong. Sure it wasnt ideal conditions, but I've seen better for sure
Last, there was absolutely no room on pricing whatsoever and IMO right now in the US, its quite high. I understand that Baume, Tag, Bell & Ross etc have comparable watches but on all of them you can get room with pricing and can get them for well under this price with very similar specs and build. To me, with the current strict pricing, its a no go. I'm going to wait and see what happens.
Yes, that sounds about right, I think its good in that range. I was quoted $3700 OTD904L steel is a hallmark of Rolex watches, and none of the Tudors use 904L.
In terms of pricing, the limited release in the US means that there is very little room to negotiate on prices at US ADs. I bought mine while I was in Europe, and through a combination of a favorable exchange rate, VAT refund, and a small discount, I got my Black Bay on a metal bracelet for $2800.
At the $2800, it was an extraordinary deal. At $3700, one has options.Yes, that sounds about right, I think its good in that range. I was quoted $3700 OTD
...especially on the bracelet. At the $2800, it was an extraordinary deal.
I've never understood the necessity of a crown guard for diving. It takes real, directed, effort to unscrew the crown. And if you're being subjected to impacts in that area of your body that would damage a crown - but for the crown guard - you've got WAY bigger problems than a flooded watch. For diving I could see this as a concern, but otherwise it's just a like any other watch with no crown guard. It's not a very big crown in relation to other watches.
You have options at $2800 too. You don't buy the Black Bay, or any watch, because it's a good deal. If you want one - for the unique aesthetic, and historical connotation, it brings, than neither $2800 nor $3700 is unreasonable. If you just want a quality dive watch, than both prices are too high.At the $2800, it was an extraordinary deal. At $3700, one has options.
