It’s not harsh, I think he’s just a little angry because sometimes people get upset over perceived criticism of something they love. it shouldn’t have been perceived as criticism, but oh well!

Guy puts out a funny and not entirely unreasonable question, with out condemnation, yet this is the kind of response that is warranted?
Most try to get along on this forum, negativity just brings things down to a very base level. Lets leave that for the Rolexforums.
Rolex is a bank account's diet food...I was chatting with a friend, and of course we discussed time pieces, the obvious subject of Rolex vs. Omega came up (we happen to love both, and have pieces from both brands), but somehow he asked me about the Pelagos.
I know the history of Tudor, but it is not a brand that I have bought before (the Harrods looks very cool, would I buy it? No.) so I said ‘hmm not sure never had it on wrist…’
To which his response was ‘I don’t blame you, Tudor is just a diet Rolex.’
I do see the similarity in case and dial designs…and of course the history behind Tudor, but where do you stand on Tudor, is it a diet Rolex? Or is it its own brand with its own style, and history?
What makes you think people dont see them in the same tier as those brands? They are, by pricing fact and their own company branding, Rolex’s lower tier brand. They are on the higher side of that tier like Breitling, but they still arent at the same level as Rolex and Omega, and I dont think a lot of people think they are…unless I am mistaken.I have nothing against Tudor and for those who have watches from the brand, that's great.
Having said that, I truly believe if they weren't related to Rolex, people would think of Oris, Longines, Norqain and maybe some Breitling as the tier Tudor is in. They are an approved homage brand to their big brother. Nothing at all wrong with that, not at all, but people think they go against Omega and some even go so far as to think they are even better than Omega. That has to be, in large part, due to it's relationship with Rolex.
That's not it at all. Most of us are adults; criticism of a material object we own isn't offending anyone.people get upset over perceived criticism of something they love.
Both value brand logos, and the telltale ugly Epiphone headstock. The Turod counterpart is the snowflake hands, I guess. What am I supposed to unsee?
I appreciate your perspective. To be fair, I only started posting recently, usually in what are you wearing but every once in a while something I find to be interesting, like the discussion I had with my friend. Didn’t realize it was a hot buttton for people, and I think the other thing is the omega vs, Rolex, which again I didn’t know that as well, because time pieces can be beautiful no matter the brand, I still feel that way but definitely surprised by some of the responses. That's not it at all. These threads pop up about once a month which is probably to be expected; there's a limited number of things you can discuss about watches on a forum with thousands of members. Everything will get discussed sooner or later and usually more than once. But frequently, they occur only to rake the coals of hackneyed debate which is, ultimately, trolling. It's not legitimate discussion. Throwing out a controversial issue that's been hashed and rehashed dozens of times can be simply naively unaware of the forum's history, or it's just plain childish. Calling Tudor 'diet' is just looking to upset folks and when you're looking to get a big thread-count and try to upset folks who spent, usually, thousands of dollars on something, you're gonna get some negative responses.
I suspect you understood that from the beginning. But if you didn't, all the 'watch the world burn' and popcorn GIFS probably clued you in.
OmegaWho does?
It couldn’t possibly be that 1) this supposedly innocent yet obviously loaded question is asked multiple times each week and 2) the question itself says more about the unhealthy, uninformed “keeping up with the Joneses” need of the person posing the question than it adds to any sort of intelligent discourse about watches. It’s not harsh, I think he’s just a little angry because sometimes people get upset over perceived criticism of something they love. it shouldn’t have been perceived as criticism, but oh well!
Love Squirt! Great mixer. It is also really good with gin. Discovered that in Jamaica. The bartender at our resort’s pool took a test tube, filled it half with gin, half with cold Squirt. Wrapped it in a towel and slammed it down on the bar to mix. Then we had to consume it in one gulp. That was a fun vacation 😎I'm sorry, but that stuff really is called squirt, and I really do like squirt. Mix it with tequila and a lime wedge, top it off with ice and boom, great drink over a carne asada.

This has absolutely nothing to do with you or your imaginary friend’s opinion of Tudor. I honestly don’t care what sort of watch you wear or if you wear a watch at all. It’s the aggressive shallowness of the question that irks but hey, if you derive some comfort from thinking you got my number sure…
You got me.
did it work? Will try harder if it didn’t.Are you trying to convince us you have a friend?
