Two nice watches or one REALLY nice watch?

I’ve been drawn by to an expensive watch but would need to sell two pretty nice watches to fund it. I wear the two I would be selling quite regularly.

I would wear the one watch daily but I’m worried I won’t want to wear one watch all the time after the newness wears off but who knows. The watch I’m eyeing is somewhat of a grail for me.

What are your thoughts on a two for one? Should I do it? There’s no way I can keep three so that’s not an option.

And at the same time, how is it relevant? The nest course of action would be for this thread not to exist. The Oap should do what they feel is right, because that's what they feel, joy because a bunch if us have our own opinions on watches and collections and water resistance and GADA and tool amd field.

In short, my opinion is worthless, do whatever the hell you feel so right :)

I always seem to be trying to downsize my collection. What a pain. So for me, a one in and two out is (y) The only caveat would be if you are giving up a watch that you like, you don't want to get into a buyback scenario.

my grail is a 60-70 y.o. Watch so I would not feel comfortable wearing it every day and would need a second one for sure.

in my case I’d have to find a day to day option to fit the budget.

just my 2 cents

somewhat of a grail...is that like somewhat pregnant? so if you have to sell two to buy one maybe you can't afford that somewhat-of-a-grail-watch to begin with.

how much $ are we talking here....4K, 8K....1K? maybe include last three years tax returns so we can see where you sit, financially speaking

Sorry for the lack of detail. I was trying to make it a logical 2-for-one decision or not. Logic and watches do not mix.

Thinking of selling my Planet Ocean and Speedmaster for a Zenith Chronomaster Sport.

no more info needed...keep the two you have

I have found myself in a similar situation several times in the past and have always kept the watches in question because they are watches I truly enjoy wearing, like practically all my watches actually, and I know I will regret selling them. I could never just wear the same watch every day. But that’s just me. You do you.

No way in frozen over hell would I sell those two Omegas for a Chronomaster Sport. I've been kinda wrong about this so far, but I think it's bound to happen. I think those are going to eventually fall in price and settle in around the usual 25-30% Zenith AD discount pre pandemic madness. Maybe lower if/when they make it to Jomashop or the like. That's when I would just look to add it, instead of giving up a PO and Speedy for one now. I'm starting to see them pretty regularly on display at the AD. And I don't think it's Zenith/LVMH's business model to limit production on what appears to be one of their hottest watches in recent memory.

Now, leaving aside these specific watches and going to the overall question. I'd prefer ONE, or >=3 watches. There have been very short times on my journey that I have had two, and two never get the same wrist time. I always have a favorite. I think that's the case for most people. Whatever the size of the collection, there's one that they reach for just a bit more. So I think it's good to have maximal discipline and have one watch that you make memories with forever, or build a collection.

For me, it would depend.

Example: If I were interested in getting, and had the option to get a Rolex Submariner, I wouldn't sell two of my existing watches to fund the purchase, as I like the watches I currently have MORE than I covet a Submariner.

On the other hand, if I had the same option in hand to get an A. Lange & Sohne, I may be tempted to consider it harder.

If I had the SAME option to get my hands on one of the Apollo Mission Speedmasters, I'd already have the watches sold and the money forked over :D :p

I've been an advocate for a small watch collection, but having one watch would likely represent significant compromise.

But if your situation is picking between two diver vs one nicer diver as an example, the I'd go 1 watch in that case
