Now the UK has left the EU, has anyone here from the UK bought a watch from Stowa since Jan 1st, and how much were the import duties?

“There is no import duty on watches imported to the UK from non-EU countries. Only VAT is charged, currently 20% of the declared value.”

It’s probably just a overall 20% tax on watches from all countries now maybe?

I think it is 20%, which is for VAT but don't quote me, this link might help:

It will be 20% import VAT plus handling charges (which are normally £10-£15).

So does that mean that you will now have to pay tax if you send your watch back to Stowa for servicing - which you wouldn't have had to do before? And would that be a tax in both directions?

The British will probably pay 20% VAT, but they will pay the Stowa price net, excluding the German Vat. There may also be other solutions, eg Ch. Ward is a VAT PL taxpayer and when buying with shipment to Poland, I am charged VAT 23% instead of GB VAT 20%.

Probably you will have to fill in additional customs paperwork when shipping watch under warranty.

Thank for this but what about after warranty? For example, you have the watch three or four years (no longer in warranty) and the send it to them to do the service? Now it’s just ‘a watch’ or rather ‘an item of value’. Now you have to pay tax both ways?
When the UK was in the EU, there was no danger of an additional tax like this. Can’t wait to be back in.
