Touché. I literally linked that thread at the bottom of my post!

However instead of just asking, I included a list to show what I liked and what I was aware of. In case that helped suggestions.

Since that was a 2020 thread, I figure we should have more options (we truly do) and maybe something interesting that just hints or takes some (not all) cues from that era.

There are tons of options, which is why someone might have something great to share. Like the Lorier Falcon/Falcon II!

Hi everyone, since there has been a lot of quality advice and suggestions here in the past, I'd appreciate your opinions, advice or tips on this.

I have made up the following list of potentially ultimate 1016 Explorer homages.

Are there any decent ones I've missed?

I have a few of these (sitting around) already and considering a dial swap to make a more unique and customised fun watch.

Alternatively, if there is some vintage but suitable watch, I'm up for a vintage/old stock watch, if the price is right and it's one to keep and maintain (and/or repair).
[The Caravelle Sea Hunter looks great, with fixed bezel]

Another alternative is another Chinese homage or self-build (since there are new options coming up all the time). Mod brand Lucius Atelier has a sub-10mm auto titanium Explorer case.

Microbrands, old Swiss or international brands? Are there any you recommend, that approximate a 1016 in look and feel? I've seen the odd microbrand watch that looked perfect if it just had a generic 1016 style 369 dial.

With the global economy crashing I'm probably not going to want to have a huge budget, so it will likely end up as a fun project instead of "the ultimate". But let's see!

Explorer homages and slight variations:

Pics are not mine, but have been inspo for this list.
Alpha, Tiger, Parnis, Tisell et. al are junk watch grade. If you want a modern lookalike, the OK does that extremely well. Personally I like SM's "modernized 1016" as opposed to just a clone of the contemporary Explorer 1.

I don’t spend a lot of time contemplating homages.
What is the point of a reply like this?
Does it add anything to the convo?
OK, now we know you don't "spend a lot of time contemplating homages."
Very nice. And? So what?
Why the diqq move?

It was simply a statement that I don’t think about the subject much. If I like a watch I do and if I don’t, I don’t. You’re the one that made an a$$ if themselves by assuming my comment was critical when you had no clue what you were babbling about.

Great suggestion, thanks for being helpful. This one takes the elements of the watch and brings its own style with some of the details, like the flat link bracelet and angular, brushed sides.

Nice to get some helpful suggestions that I hadn't thought of. Exactly why I asked here.

Those pictures are of version 2. The newest version has the 3-6-9 dial, as seen here: FALCON SIII

I don't know why or if I've offended you or you just wanted to poke fun at me. I didn't come here to piss you off. What am I doing wrong? I'm a bit confused by your cryptic joke.
what if my comment wasn't a cryptic joke, but constructive criticism?
have you tried compiling your own alternatives into specifics of what you're looking for?
  • size?
  • price-range from <AliX to >eberhard
  • case shape vaguely round
  • dial colour from black to white /silver, textured or not
  • arabic numbers/ batons + triangles, round, assorted, lumed and not
  • hands shape?

if you feel the above presents a coherent image of what you're looking for by labelling it 'an Explorer homage', well, why not

I never realized how exact a copy the Kronos says to the original. And frankly, it’s a rather nice copy too.
Lots of brands and explorer like watches I’ve never seen before.
