Just to start out that this is the first "modern" Rolex I have purchased in a long time. I have been into only the sport/diver models for the last 25 years and it was time for a more upscale sporty/sports model and the Datejust II with its heavier fluted bezel and markers couldn't be more perfect for my collection.

After trying on alot of models at my local AD this week I was floored by the Datejust II with the enamel looking black stick dial and white gold fluted bezel so much that I searched with our forums trusted sellers and found one at SD Watches and Tony made me a deal on a brand new one I couldnt pass up. Tony is a true pro and knows how to treat a picky forum member. His service is first rate.
This is how Tony sends his watches via over night in multiple boxes and inner bags. He also includes his own yellow nylon bag over the outer Rolex box just so the outer box still remains pristine in shipping.

All hang tags as well as the Rolex warranty card filled out for march 2017.

The inner box number:

The next was to wind the watch and set it before I go any further.

Before I can size the bracelet I had to remove all the stickers. I put the watch under my magnifying light and started the process. Holly crap Rolex, how may stickers is on this watch and who puts them on this precise.

At this point I inspected the watch under high magnification and its perfect even to my WIS ocd standards.

I needed to remove only one link on the 6 o'clock side and taped off either side of the bracelet screw with blue painters tape. My Panerai flat head is a perfect fit for the newer Rolex bracelet screws. I believe my classic Bluesy has a finer flat head as I used a different screw driver for it. FYI:Rolex did apply loctite at the factory as the threads had a white residue. Easy task and the watch fit perfect with the easy link in.

With the easy link out the watch still fit nice but looser as designed for quick adjustments. Love the easy link.

The overall look of the Datejust with this face is more elegant classic sports watch and less business watch for sure. Classic Rolex.

This watch is a stunner. The fluted bezel with the black dial is exactly the clean look I was longing for. The bezel puts on a light show in the sun and lights up my kitchen walls with just a hint of sun rays hitting it. It complements my Bluesy in the same flashy way without yellow gold.

I then had to do a lume test and see how well the markers light up. Very good and readable even with the thinner stick hands.

The weight and fit is very well balanced without feeling too big but still having big watch wrist presence.

I cant recommend Tony enough at SD Watches as he knows how to treat a watch collector and their needs. I do recommend trying on different models as some I thought I liked didnt fit my needs and others I didnt look at before brought me to my knees when on my wrist. When I get that reaction, the watch is always a keeper.|>

Congratulations on your purchase. The DJ with the fluted bezel is simply amazing and you can be sure of extra glances of your wrist.

On a side note about the protective stickers on your watch. Audemars Piguet trumps Rolex.

Thanks everyone for such kind words. The lume gif was just a quick dark bathroom pic with a pretty short exposure rate to give a "accurate" lume representation.
Accuracy so far has been outstanding with 0 seconds deviation for a day now. It does appear that Rolex's 2 second accuracy standard has produced real world results. That said, my 17yr old Bluesy when regulated by Rikki will keep the same standard of accuracy.

Bracelet adjustment with clasp feels different than older Rolex models: I also noticed that the new clasp with easylink can be adjusted within the bracelet links different from almost all my other watches (Omega PO, Rolex, Breitling,etc..). Normally I like less links on the 6 o'clock side of the watch. This is a very common practice. I found when the new easylink Rolex clasp sits with a even amount of links on both sides is more comfortable and positions the clasp similar to the older way I use to size a bracelet. :thinking:Interesting. I initially adjusted the bracelet as I would any other watch with one less link on the 6 o'clock side (4 links - 6 links). It was good but didnt center the clasp on my wrist like every other watch (including my TT Sub). When adjusting the links evenly(5 links - 5 links) resulted in a more comfortable result.
Its been said before but I will say it again, the bracelet and clasp construction of the new Rolex design is solid as a rock. The clasp is precision bank vault secure. I have no reservations taking my DJ2 on light snorkeling dives over vacations. There is no side to side play along the entire length of the bracelet feeling like a solid strip of steel is wrapped around my wrist.

Wearability: I wanted to try on my other larger watches that were 42-45mm back to back with the DJ2 to give a honest comparison. The DJ2 with the fluted bezel punches way above its 41mm weight class on the wrist and visual presence. Even though it is only 41mm, it wears and shows like a honest 43mm on the wrist. (IMO) It does this visual trick without being bulky or thick. Being thinner is what setts the DJ2 apart and lets this model be a suit watch as well as your sports watch. It's not thick and chunky like a dive watch but still has the wrist presents of a larger watch. To demonstrate this, I tried on several different larger sports watches with the DJ2 for my wife to guess if they were the same size. She is use to seeing me in larger watches and in here eyes the DJ2 looked to be the same size as my 44mm Breitling Black Bird. She also said the DJ2 looked larger than my classic Bluesy so the fluted bezel of the DJ2 is certainly giving a visual effect of size and opening up the dial circumference to your eyes.

Heck, even the crown aligned perfectly strait up, not that it matters but in WIS OCD world gets some cool points.:-s

Here is a similar comparison pic of my new DJII and my classic Bluesy.

I was in my local AD just this afternoon looking at the various Datejust models in stock. I've got to get one of these things soon, preferably with the fluted bezel and the Jubilee bracelet.

I'm smitten with this iteration of yours, Mystro, but I'm looking for a white or silver dial version. I've got way too many black and blue watches. And I'm pretty determined to get a 36mm model.

Still, though, your new DJ II looks awfully appealing ... [emoji851]

Gorgeous watch, I wish the new 41 had that beautiful deep black dial. It looks like sunburst black only on the new one. Hopefully this changes or there is an option of a deep black dial.
