I'm just starting my collection, and have read all of the things -- positive and negative -- about the Speedy Reduced.

With all of the info out there, I'm still pushing to get one to start my collection. However I hadn't seen much discussion around value-retention between the two models.

Of course logic would dictate that there are a lot less 3539's than 3150's, so it might be worth the premium to get the 3539 now -- but curious if there are other factors that make the 3539 worth the higher price point its going for these days.

The 3150 I think is undervalued and unfairly maligned as "not a Speedmaster" which impacted values for a long time. The 3539 never got quite as bad of a rap, probably just because it didn't have the small numbers by the indices.

Personally, right now, I think the 3539 is valued about right and the 3150 is undervalued. I'd say that (again, personally) "market" value for the 3150 should be maybe 10% less than the 3539 due to the small numbers and lack of a sapphire crystal.

Do with this information what you will, but it's my opinion. A few years back I owned a 3150 for a while and I think they're great pieces.

ETA: Looking at value retention when buying watches is smart, don't get overly caught up in it. At the end of the day, buy what YOU love. Even if you end up parting with it later and lose some money, the enjoyment you'll get out of it while it's on your wrist is worth it.

For the 3510.50 and 3539.50, the game is no longer "value retention" but rather "price appreciation" as selling prices for both have increased.

If you ask me, 3510.50s are appreciating more rapidly, as 3539.50 are already bumping prices into Moonwatch territory

Yea, that makes sense!

Debating at this point between a great deal on a 3510 or an OK deal on a 3539.

I plan on keeping it for a while, but hopefully life puts me in a spot where upgrading/growing the collection isn't too far down the line! Tough call...
