I bought a Nivada Antarctic Diver Sub Automatic (probably paid too much), but am uncertain of the approximate year it was made. Any ideas? It has an early 70s look to it. Also, it is a "diver" but no depth (e.g., 100m, 500m etc.) is specified on dial or back. The seller didn't know either. I almost posted to the Diver Forum, but decided to consult the vintage experts first. I have not received the watch yet, but expect to later this week. See images for reference. Thanks all. Chris
Late sixties, early seventies.
The Croton Nivada Grenchen "Antarctic" was first worn by Admiral Byrd on "Operation Deepfreeze", a series of scientific expeditions in 1955-56 to the Antarctic. The Antarctic models first came out for the public circa 1957.
Regards, Bob.
Great looking Nivada! The case looks similar to the Taravana model which is rated to 200m so I'd expected yours to be the same. (On the Taravana case the depth rating is written in the text on the caseback).
