You know the ones:

Does anyone have experience ot these?
I want to know what the quality is like and if they clear the crystal cleanly?
There seem to be two types, this one and the ebay type with the different edge.
I'd welcome opinions as I am looking for protection of some sort for my Vostok.

It's steel, it cleans the crystal cleanly - what's more to be said (talking about the meranom version)? I'll see if I can dig up some pics I've made of my 420 with it.

Thank you ligavesh.

Has anyone tried the eBay type with the four large flat 'teeth' rather than the meranom type with the serrated edge?
I'd be interested to see either fitted to a 650 case if anyone has done so? Or others to be honest!
What's the clearance from Crystal to bars and does it make the watch aesthetically too top heavy and rounded?

Has anyone used a different method to protect the Crystal?

Thanks DocTone

Has anyone tried modding a cage bezel?

As in adjusting the bars? Excuse my poor photoshop skills:

Hi Doc
I'm currently on page 54 of the 1st modding thread.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the cage bezel. But I would like a slightly lighter version. Hence the question about reducing the bars.
I've not seen that done, have you?
For example I think the eBay version would look good with just the four corner triangles left of the grille.
I have a meranom one on order and might get one for modding, just wondered if anyone has already tried it?
Yours looks coloured on my phone screen, did you chemically colour it or heat treat?

Atantia,
I like your idea to remove a few bars and give it a less intrusive appearance.

I also like the original appearance but sometimes I think it overpowers the appearance of the entire watch, especially the dial, which is not always something I want.

Thanks Matt,
While I wait for my Meranom order to arrive.......
The meranom grille is more finely proportioned. The Ebay one seems to have more metal to work with.
I think that it would possibly be more suited to remodelling.
Something like this is what I had in mind:

I'm suprised the sellers don't offer variations?
The polished surface would be easier to blend in once the bars are cut.
If someone's already done this and it's just further into the two epic modding threads that I've gradually been reading through.........

OK, so this thread just shows how long the wait for parts seems, when you are waiting to mod!
I now have three separate orders from Russia en-route and one from the uk.

And all I can do is plan things in photoshop!

Atlantia,

I'm liking what I'm seeing !!

Your design will pass the 'drag-the-watch-across-the-concrete-under-my-car' test.
That's all I need.

Thanks Matt,

If it's not already been done (and I can't find reference to it) then the idea is out there now.
Even If I don't get round to it, I'm sure someone will be showing one off soon.

Hi ... sometimes would help, which idea is staying behind the modding ...or you want to do .
Like said by using dremel and some sandpaper you can change it very fast ...

when I presented the piece in the modding thread my idea behind was to create a reminescnce to
old diving helmets and first pioneer of russian divers.

so I adjusted the appearence of the watch to that
, yes the Whole watch is Heat treated to reach this

edit :
by the way ..your Design is great ..
Nevertheless you should consider by chnaging the Design... your Requirements / ideas should be clear. IMHO this design looks nice .. but have also disadvantges : Cage not stable.. Open Surface ..always the Risk something is hanging on this open cage

I've never been big on the cage bezels, but when you do it in bronze the entire story changes! It looks so appropriate to the old diving helmets. Well done
