How is the new line of Amfibia watches selling compared to the classic designs?
Have they taken steps to stop the blue-faced watches fading?
Do they have any plans for more classic reissues like the 1967?
I sent to Vostok the first portion of questions yesterday. I will try to formulate some more from the latest posts and send them in a couple of hours. The list is already pretty long , so please, let's wait for the answers now.
If the answers will be long I will ask some of you to help with the translation, to accellerate the process.
"Original" script in Russian will also be available, of course.
3) Pricing of current and future Komandirskie and Amphibia models will be in line with current pricing expectations (i.e. <US$60)
This one I can tell everyone right now is not going to be the answer that will come... There have been significant increases in Vostok's wholesale prices in the past few weeks so there is no way I can think of that won't start to impact the retails. We've already had to raise ours, and I didn't even take them up as much as I should have... I'm taking the hit on margin in order to stay as close to past pricing as possible.
Unless there is a turnabout on the wholesale prices, (which, of course we would welcome!) it just seems very unlikely that market pricing won't be impacted.
Sorry for the long silence. I thought I could post the answers instead of saying that they will appear soon. I got the reassurance recently that they will certainly reply, but it seems Vitaliy has a huge workload right now. In any case, what we feel from our side is that the factory is working as earlier. At least we regularly and in time receive our orders from Vostok. The quality is perfect, as always. I will post below their short answer as regards the financial situation which we got in January. Actually this led us to the idea of an interview.
A Russian news site, focused on army and weapons, announced that the Russian soldiers and officers could receive in 2010-2011 wrist watches as part of their equipment. The article says that four types of watches are being designed - mechanical with hand winding for sergeants, mechanical with automatic winding for officers, a 100 m. water-proof watch for the navy and a chronograph for the senior officers. Maktime and Vostok will be commissioned to make them, says the article, and Maktime director confirmed the news, adding that the chronograph will be with automatic winding. link here (http://www.arms-expo.ru/site.xp/052053124054052048050.html). Unfortunately the photos are from other watches, not the announced ones. There is a short description of what the new watches are expected to be, e.g. to have anti-glare coating, if I understood well.
Well, if Vostok people are working right now on a new Zakaz, this could be a great news. In any case, if it is not too late to ask more questions, it might be interesting to know if a new Zakaz is being prepared, how it will look like, and will it be available to humble collectors.
But there is no date put on the article, so it might be an old news, a discarded project.
As right now I cannot work on the accurate translation, please, help me. This is the original reply we got in January and I have permission to post it as is. Since it is not very informative, we decided not to post it immediately and initiated the interview. I hope we will get more detailed answers soon. I would not bother them with additional questions now. Let's get the answers to the earlier questions first.
The question is numbered 1) because the second one was about the watches offered in the popular here ebay shop. I think I will post it in the corresponding thread, though that answer was not very informative either.
Nor English, nor Russian are my native languages, but as first attempt (not direct translation):
Q: Vitaliy, there are rumors around, that Vostok is in difficult financial situation. Is it true?
A: As the previous manager of the factory, Mr.Tsivilin was in retirement age since two years, but continue to actively lead the company, he finally decided to step out of his duties. Currently he is still at the position of counselor in the company. As the new general manager was appointed one of his former substitutes of one of the directions in the factory - Mr.Puchov.
As for the current financial status of Vostok - it is not perfect of course, and in addition we have a lot of delayed payments of Russian customers of the factory.
