Want It, Have Money, Won’t Buy It?

I just saw a photo of someone’s Junghans Max Bill watch. I love these, they look great, they’re affordable for me, but I won’t buy it because I can’t see myself wearing it.
There’s even a chronograph version available, and I am nuts about chronographs. But I won’t spend the money on it.
What watches do you like that you can buy, but won’t? And why not, if you care to elaborate?

Funny, I'm kind of the opposite. If I could get a daytona at retail I would buy it... a lot of other Rolex, not so much.

When you talk about grey market prices for Rolex, in my mind there are so many better watches to spend the same amount of money on.

One really expensive watch.

If I sold off loads of mine I could get a PP or more likely a ALS.

But I won’t because I would worry about having so much money tied up in such an easily lost, stolen, damaged item, and the fact that my life style doesn’t fit dressy watches, I’m always building stuff or knocking things about, including my watches.

Their main design studio is actually in Berlin. That really explains it all.

This is quite a thought provoking post. I am virtually in the same spot as several respondents. Reluctance to actually lay-out the money, relative satisfaction with the current collection (irrelevant to size), possibly the sum of experiences after collecting for many years are all my reasons. A VERY sharp focus on what I like and a strict rule of NO purchases without covering, at the very least, the cost of incoming has been very helpful.

Thanks for this post.

I get your idea. I am kind of a "reach the optimum" type of guy, so even in an exuberant hobby like this one, which tends to excesses, I try to not overextend and overlap too much.

Regarding the Max Bill, I think I'll get the titanium Mega Solar with mesh in few months (Black Friday).

CA0720-54H. I don't need to have another solar/Eco-Drive watch that I like but don't wear much (with kinetics hogging wrist time).

Although I like the look, and would like to give Duratec a try, the watch is a bit too big for my wrist size. It'd probably look like this on me (pic from online):

I'm constantly reminding myself I'm trying to get down to ~4 watches, and another diver is simply not going to help in the matter.
I recently added a watch I thought would put an end to wanting more watches, at least for a while. Then a few days ago, guess what happened...And as if adding "yet another watch" weren't bad enough, the watch I thought I might sell that has been in the collection for a few months? Nah, I like it too much, so I think I'll keep it. Now I'm up to seven, three of which are the same model that I continue to search for. So I tell myself it's really only five.
This freakin' disease, I tell ya...

For me it’s an Omega diver. Either blue dial SMP or PO. I have tried them on and they are nice but haven’t pulled the trigger for some reason. Just doesn’t feel completely right. I have other divers but that’s really not the issue. I need Omega represented in the collection but am torn. Maybe AT.

I've always loved the aesthetics, from the case shape to the sparse dial, acrylic crystal, wire lugs, combination of Roman and Arabic numerals, railroad minute tracks, blued hands, etc...it's just fantastic.

But...it's 47mm and it's just not my style to wear a watch that big. On one level I love it and want it but haven't considered buying one for a long time. I'll admire them online and from afar.

I've casually wanted a Sub date for a few years, but won't pay $13k or whatever the gray price is, when it should be at most a $6k watch in my mind. Of course it'll never go that low, so I'll never pick one up.

The Max Bill is the cheapest watch in my collection by a wide margin, but gets worn quite a bit.

I sold some of my watches recently as some were not even used, then got a BB58 Black which i will use a lot - i keep saying to myself 'just becuase you can doesnt mean you should'! Only watch i really want is a Rolex explorer and I think we all know my chances of getting the call from my AD is pretty much 0.

It would be these two. I had the "white" dial 114300 (it's actually a cream dial and in certain lighting, silver) and sold it, if it had been a true white I would have kept it. The rhodium dial is sharp. And the GO Sixties Green w/date. The price for either piece is unreasonable imo. Just because I can afford $5.00 for a bite size Snickers doesn't mean I will pay it.

I don't know what you consider a reasonable price, but unlike the Rolex, I bet you can get a pretty substantial discount on the GO from an AD.
