I'm not sure if this has been tackled before but I'm interested to know more about watch brand tiers/hierarchy for vintage watches. Of course brands like PP, Vach, and AP will still be at the top but there are some brands like Longines who was probably one of the best in the 60s. Brands like Girard Perregaux werent exactly luxury back in the day but they are now. We can also tackle defunct brands such as Cortebert, Eterna, Waltham, etc

Maybe we can segment it per decade

Top brands of the 50s
Top brands of the 60s
Top brands of the 70s
Top brands of the 80s
Top brands of the 90s

Thanks

Hierarchy based on what? Price point? Popularity, image, design, sales numbers of units, and the list goes on and on....

The whole hierarchy thing is flawed from its very foundation. Multiple brands covered multiple segments of the market, and they'd often cater to several completely different target dems at a time. So, hierarchy? What hierarchy?

Not to mention national pride and familiarity, historic significance unconnected to technical merits (eg first or last movement made by a country)
