Hi all,

I purchased my first nice watch earlier this year, a Stowa Marine Automatic with date.

When it arrived from Germany (I am in Sydney) the date is set to change at midday.

Can anyone provide some simple instructions for a watch noobie on how to fix this?

I believe it has a swiss 2824-2 movement?

Cheers
Christian

Good day mate

1. Pull the crown to third position (time setting) and rotate the crown to move hands 12h ahead.
2. Push the crown to 1st position (winding)
3. Pull the crown again but to the intermediate 2nd position (date setting) and rotate the crown 30 days ahead - if you rotate in one direction and nothing happens, rotate backward.
4. Push the crown to 1st position (winding) and you are good to go.

In the morning, set the watch to six o'clock. It doesn't matter at this point if the watch thinks it's AM or PM - that'll be taken care of later. Next, set the DATE to one day before the current date. Then advance the TIME until the date changes. Finally, advance the TIME until it is correct, being careful not to advance past 12:00. If you do this same procedure after noon instead of in the morning, you will have to advance the time past 12:00, then set it to the correct time. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately I believe this will require a full movement tear down. It must have been a watch assembled on a Monday or a Friday and they put everything together wrong. It happens. Firstly, obviously the balance cock is connected to the keyless work backwards, causing the entire wheel train to increment the date wheel incorrectly 180 degress off center. This will of course necessitate a replacement bridge and balance, potentially even a spring. I would get in contact with Stowa ASAP to initiate the warranty process, as this repair could take months.

Imagine if your reply was first :p

This is a good procedure to follow to avoid manually changing the date in the "danger zone": Wait before you change the date! | Govberg Watch Repair
This danger zone info is very useful indeed but does not apply to a lot of modern watches that "flick" the date instantly, meaning that as soon as the date has changes which normally occurs very close to 00.00, it should be safe to readjust...although most people would be mid-dozing by that time. I am rather a nocturnal creature and even though I have a normal 9-5 job I rarely ever go to bed before midnight. That "flick" sound is for me, if I hear it, a sign that it's time to wrap up whatever I'm doing and get my a$$ to be so as to not be droopy at work the next day
