Wearing a watch with a Sterling Silver bracelet

I was wondering if anyone here combines a watch with a Sterling Silver bracelet? I would imagine with the bracelet on the crown side, but any pics would be wonderful!

Would Sterling Silver damage the watch? Google tells me that steel rates above silver on the mohs scale (2.5 vs 4.5) so I'm hoping not, but I wonder if polished surfaces on the watch would end up getting scuffed by the silver anyway.

Any other thoughts I should be aware of? Perhaps it's a major fashion faux pas or something!

Below image is of the watch I'm considering pairing. Also for example sake a random sterling silver bracelet off Google, it doesn't look particularly like the one I was eyeing up in store, but will serve as an example to get the imagination juices flowing! ?

(p.s. Apologies if this topic has been done before, my fruitless searching found a lot of threads about watch bracelets and sterling silver watches..!)

Any metal bracelet (precious metal or not) will scratch your watch. It may not dent or gouge but will put a zillion micro scratches on the side you wear it on. My wife has a SS DJ that she wears a WG or silver bracelet with and it doesn’t look half bad. Basically over time all the scratches turn into a bead blasted kind of finish. It’s those first hundred thousand initial scratches that might be hard to get through, haha.

if you don’t mind a more matte finished look vs. polished, than you might like it. As illogical as it sounds, the hardness scale doesn’t apply in this case otherwise a plastic keyboard could never scratch the metal clasp of our watches.

Ah this is really helpful thanks. I'm definitely not looking to bead blast my watch, so I think this puts an end to that thought! Perhaps this is why I've found it so hard to find images of people doing this ?

With the keyboard thing, I remember hearing that the keyboard/desk can't scratch your watch, but it's tiny bits of dirt/sand that end up on those surfaces that will cause 'desk-diving' scratches. That could be utter nonsense, but I'm sure I've heard it more than once!

I wore one once...a leather strap that had a little metal clasp...my kids bought it for me (with my wife) while I was in Fourtané Estate a Official Rolex Shop in Carmel by the Sea buying a watch : ^ ) - So I put it on and wore it for months not even thinking about it or caring b/c my kids bought it right? A couple months later when I finally looked at my Sub that green little leather bracelet F'd one side of it up!

Not sure what your thinking but here is the type bracelet (link) and the watch for sake of the story. So be careful...constant rubbing or even barely touching took its toll over time!!!
Thanks for the example, you have me convinced this is a no-go! If that little clasp messed up the side of your Sub, my poor Explorer would end up in the hospital next to the full metal bracelet I was going for! :ROFLMAO:

Why do you need to wear them on the same wrist? Presumably you have two (wrists), why not simply wear the bracelet on one and the watch on other...? Both on the same wrist has never appealed to me, from both an aesthetic and a practical point of view, but some here find otherwise, as always.
Unfortunately the police make me wear a special bracelet on the other wrist. Got into some trouble... was something about having to pay for watches when leaving the store... can't go within 50 paces of an AD now

Ha jokes aside, yes that's definitely on my mind too. Was interested in thoughts on pairing on same wrist (above two give a resounding no!) before deciding what to go with. One of the advantages I was thinking for having them on the same side is I think it probably makes it a bit more subtle with one wrist bare. But will probably try opposite wrists and see how it goes! I've never worn a bracelet before so an odd little learning curve for me and I may end up hating it!

Well its not really about "why" from the OP and I gotta admit I put the bracelet my kids got me right on the left wrist with my watch. I would never wear a watch on one wrist and a bracelet on the other...I'm guessing its how our brains are wired but that seems weird and never appealed to me. Can't be explained really but when I see a ring on a thumb or middle finger...OMG I lose my mind.

So where were we...

OT: Regarding the keyboard thing...I always wiped down my keyboard, mouse, etc with a disinfecting wipe ...because I worked in an mission operations center for a long time. We wiped everything down cause I didn’t want the chicken wing juice from the previous guy I was relieving to mix in with the tuna fish sandwich I was gonna eat later that night 🤮

With that said, I’m 100% sure there was no dirt, sand or any other thing that could scratch my watch except the damn keyboard. But like this story YMMV😁

Thanks, this is what I will try as well and see how it looks. Not sure if I can pull it off, but I will try!

That's normally what I did, but if I really could not resist wearing them on one side, then I would take some precautions by putting a tiny scotch type on the side of the watch. maybe it doesn't sound professional! but who cares...
Thinking outside the box, I like it!

I use this thin leather with a bit of 925 silver with my watches. If the watch scratches, it scratches
Generally I take the same approach (i.e. scratches happen, don't worry about it). But it sounds like a solid metal bracelet will perhaps be taking that a bit far judging by the examples shared. Yours looks like it should be OK with the little bit of separation between the metals.

Yes it would, and that's also the reason why I put my bracelet on the other wrist.
Going to try the same thanks (y)

You both make a good argument! However I did have a specific one in mind, so I think opposite wrist will be the choice for me at least initially. Good options for anyone else that finds this thread with a similar question though. I love the idea of always having a snack available on the wrist 🤤

I think these are issues for women and Rock/Hollywood stars.

A "Bracelet", other than a watch bracelet, should be verboten for men... just my own opinion, of course! Oh, BTW, I don't wear an ankle bracelet either. However, these sure look good on women!
Something about your comment doesn't quite match up with your username 🤣🤣
