I couple weeks ago we were in Chicago and stopped at a few of the watch stores on Michigan Ave. I had mentioned wanting to have her try on a few brands of watches in order to get an idea of the style she likes for a future gift. Fortunately she seemed to really enjoy it! As much as I like my Rolex, she didn't really fancy any of the designs...either too many diamonds or she didn't like the bezel style.
She tends to like the yellow gold or the mellow rose golds. The Tiffany below is actually rose gold, for example.
The two that she liked and looked great on her were:
1) Cartier Ballon Blue De
2) Tiffany Metro 3-Hand 34 mm
The subtle diamonds were okay with her on the Tiffany watch. The funny thing was that when I suggested stopping at Tiffany's too she thought we were looking for rings! But, they make decent watches too.
I know the heritage of Cartier as a watch maker. I like how they tell you the movement and talk about the technicals of the watch. Tiffany, on the other hand, just says "self-winding mechanical movement." I would prefer them to tell us about the movement and show some pictures of it. However, they seem to be a jewelry company foremost.
What is everyone's opinion on the Tiffany watch? That's the one she liked best.
Any other suggestions? She's looking for something along the lines of these two. She doesn't want to go too dressy as she would be wearing it as a daily wearer. Definitely prefer automatic or self-winding over quartz. I just can't justify spending this much money on a quartz. Upper limits is around $13-15,000.
Thanks!
