What do you think are the most iconic watches of all time?

For this, don't worry about any particular references or years, just the general model.

Mine are:

Rolex Daytona
AP Royal Oak
Rolex Submariner
Omega Speedmaster
Rolex GMT Master

What are yours?

Subby topping the list, no surprise. The GMT Master is a fantastic watch but not as iconic IMO... Speedy is also a must on a list like this, and I think you can make a case for the Royal Oak being iconic. More of a stretch to the Calatrava… not "iconic" in the sense of "widely recognizable even to the non-initiated". It is more of a (admittedly excellent) example of a type. I think the original G-Shock, a plastic Swatch watch, and a Hamilton Pulsar might be in the running as icons...

Rolex Oyster Perpetual - origin of the entire waterproof Rolex line (Submariner, Daytona, GMT are all subsets of the Oyster Perpetual)
Casio GShock - first tough watch
Cartier Santos - first modern wrist watch for men
Apple Watch - first really mass produced smart watch
Seiko Astron 35 SQ - first consumer available quartz watch

your list is extremely Swiss biased.

To watch guys or to the general public? I had no idea what an AP RO was until a few years ago. Everyone and their mom knows what a Rolex Sub is.

Rolex Submariner
Omega Speedmaster
Breitling Navitimer
Other: Cartier Tank (I know the Reverso is a simliar Art Deco shape, but I have to give the nod to the Tank)

As someone has asked, icon to whom? I doubt many in the general public would be able to identify which Rolex model they were looking at.

I'd say the Sub and Speedy, everything beyond that is questionable how "iconic" it is really. If you made me choose, Reverso, RO, Calatrava, but a may agree with others that may have to think cheaper with the G-Shock and the Seiko Astron. I'll throw the Casio Databank out there too, haha.
