That's not how any of this works.

Grails are supposed to be unattainable. The stuff of legends and lifetime quests.

Not something you decide to save up for for an extra month or two and then walk into an AD and get one.

Some people do have to overcome the irrational decision of wrist trinkets.
It might take years. It might seem like years. It might be a step from a Casio to a Tudor.

On the surface I get your point and maybe the term is loosely used by some but also, some might genuinely consider “pulling the trigger” (man I hate that phrase) and going to grab that grail as an action to celebrate.

Grail watch…is a term used by nerds to describe their perfect watch…not necesarily unobtainable, but if the price is high enough then it may be to some.

Lots of terms we use don’t really translate to normal usage……

The definition of words used here on WUS many times have little relevance to the dictionary definition. To a new person this has got to be strange. However, over time WUS participants begin to learn this new language and incorporate the group definitions. Be it grail, homage, best, etc, they are just charged words reflecting someone’s emotional excitement. Which also leads to fun post discussions as we battle royal over all minutiae!

If it's unattainable, how can it be a "lifetime quest"? Are you suggesting that everyone should fail their lifetime quests?

Check your language before posting.

I agree that grails should not be EASILY attainable. However I don't believe they should be unattainable either. I would personally make a distinction and call those unattainable grails, or unobtainium for short.

To me the phrase of "grail" in the community's common language is defined as THE END GOAL. It should be difficult but also within sight (but perhaps not within reach).

In 2021 when economy was good, my "grail" was Lange 1
Perhaps even the Grand Lange 1 moonphase, but because I also wanted GO PML which comes with a moon anyway so I probably wanted to opt for the vanilla Lange 1 instead.
Yes I was that greedy.

In 2022 we all know what happened to the financial market. My "grail" became just the GO PML.
It's something I can see myself getting, but not quite there yet unless I want to blow a hole in my portfolio.
It is something I can see myself getting when my cash flow is more than 5x the cost of the PML, which technically is just 50K.

I know the idea you're trying to get at, but don't make it to the other end of extreme. It's unnecessary.

grail; a nonsense word used by over-involved, need-to-fit-in nurbs as a secret-squirrel-word to flail about in forums and get-togethers suggesting either a long journey to reach or, in most cases, just their next watch

Regarding definition of grail, to each his own I guess.
