What do you mean "you decided to get your grail"?

That's not how any of this works.

Grails are supposed to be unattainable. The stuff of legends and lifetime quests.

Not something you decide to save up for for an extra month or two and then walk into an AD and get one.

I've had quite a few grails in my time, ended up flipping a couple. One I think I even bought on layaway, I can't remember!

You're right. It doesn't actually mean grail. Just watch, usually expensive.

If it's unattainable, how can it be a "lifetime quest"? Are you suggesting that everyone should fail their lifetime quests?

Check your language before posting.
:oops: well that's you told, Buramu!

Otherwise, it's just another watch you discovered, liked, and bought.
Pretty much. But that's the wonderful thing about words - these days, we can all ascribe any definition to them we like. It really helps with communication and understanding :)

One (not THE, just potentially ONE) origin of the use of Holy Grail in the context of wristwatches is from Chuck Maddox, an Omega enthusiast and chronicler who used the expression to describe the Lemania-powered Speedmaster automatic in the Professional case. Only 2,000 were made, possibly in multiple batches, over 35 years ago. Even more than 20 years ago, they were rarely if ever put up for sale. The odds back then of coming across one were very long, and now I suspect, impossibly long.

Over time, the expression lost the Holy, became simply grail, and was applied by a wider and less enthusiast audience to practically any product that could be bought, or sold. (And maybe even processed.) Anyway; as with all things eventually, cheapened to the point of worthlessness.

It isn't supposed to be something you can buy.
Can I get grails on credit? There's a grail shop near me. Loads of grails in the window, and unusually they're still doing 0% on a range of grails.
