Re: What does the "M" in 16040M mean?

I don't think it has particular meaning besides the fact the the M version of the 14060 is the COSC version of the 14060 that comes equipped with the new 3130 caliber instead of the old 3000 no COSC caliber.
This shoul be pretty much it,but let the expert chime in.

I've brefly owned a 14060M and I'm currently on the prowl for a no COSC 14060...:-!:-!:-!

The M stands for the new movement cal 3130 and have nothing to do with COSC. There are both COSC and non
COSC M's out there. Same with the Air King. When Rolex upgrade Explorer with cal 3130 so did they add a 1 first in
the reference number instead of a M at the end. Rolex logic just like it use to be.

As Jocke stated it has to do with some changes in the movement from the 3000 to the 3130.

The M indicates modified.:)

Modified; which means it has the rehaut engraving and COSC dial text.

Cheers
Not true Clive. Rolex modified the movement back around 1999 or 2000 and that is when the 14060 became the 14060M. The early versions of course did not have the engraved rehaut or the extra text on the dial.;-)

Forgive me if this was said already:

14060, 1989-1999: cal 3000: balance cock instead of full balance bridge, older style over coil.
14060M, 2000-current: cal 3130: full balance bridge, Breguette over coil

I was just researching the subject when I saw this thread. |>
