I've seen a few of these contemporary chronographs around through the years which all have very similar design features, especially the leaf hands and the typeface of the arabics on the dials, and a simple, smooth metal bezel. Is there a watch - presumably from the 1940s or possibly 30s - that pioneered this style, or is an iconic representative of it?

It is an interesting style for sure. I think maybe Elgin had this look as well for a while?
