So its January, and I have some time on my hands. I'm thinking of subjecting G-Shocks to all sorts of tests. I could take videos of the tests and put them on youtube.

Sure you guys always talk about a specific watch being the toughest, but wouldn't you want to see it PROVEN.

I'm not going to do something dumb involving a LOTS of centripetal force, a baseball bat, a block of concrete, and a G-shock in between it all. Not only do I not have the tools to measure how much force that took, or a measurement of how strongly I swing...but that would pretty much destroy any watch.

So tell me...what kind of tests would you like me to subject new G's that have never had their caseback opened. And by the way...I don't really have access to 20bars of water.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, I'm not trying to step on anybody's toes; I've just seen a lot of "tests" that don't really quantify anything except that their watch can survive a throw from their balcony. Which is great if I'm chucking my watch off their balcony.

Thanks WUS-ers!

I'd like to see how a G copes after being run over! Also, how about chucking a Mudman in some mud or sand and seeing how it copes with it.

Also I'd be interested in seeing if anything would happen to a G that has it's buttons pressed underwater. Some people say it would be ok, but I believe most manuals say not to.

When is the next space shuttle mission? Anyways, find out, and duct tape the watch to the shuttle just before it takes off.

Oh wait, when it snowed here last week, I was thinking after the event. Make a big snow ball with a "G" inside and throw it at something solid over and over again.

I'd like to see a combination of the different torture videos.
Like the vibration test performed at -20C, or the hammer test at +50C b-)

Also I think it would be fun to find out how the various models hold up against corrosive substances (mild acids etc).

Those are good suggestions. I won't really use a full size car to run a mudman over(perhaps starting with a golf cart and going up from there), but I really like the sand/mud idea and pushing the buttons underwater. I can definitely do that. Thanks!

I'll have to figure some stuff out, but yeah...great ideas.

Strapped to a bumper of a car and driven through lifes daily challenges (road vibration, rain, snow, salt etc).

Put into an empty paint can and placed in a paint shaking device.

Put through a laundry wash and dry cycle. :)

There are lots of tests around the house and around town.

wow. of all the answers you call me beavis? i think the baseball idea would work...

since you definetly got balls, little boy.

lucky im a grown up and wont argue on a forum, id otherwise drop you down a peg or two...
Smashing a watch with a baseball bat (which is something I said I won't do) makes you worthy of being called beavis.

Thanks anyways, gramps.

I appreciate everyone who had legit suggestions. If there's nothing else to add, I'll update you guys on my tests a few weeks from now. All I need now are some cheap new g-shocks from amazon (read: Mudman...mass quantities).

I have used all the functions of my DW6900 underwater on countless occaisions. 9 years later and 3 batteries, it is still going strong.

I am going to have to cast a vote for the true mudman tests. I want to see just how well it resists fine grit and sand. I would be interesting to see one put out in the middle of the desert for a couple of weeks and see how it looks when it comes back :-!
