Ironman triathlons, composed of 2.4 mile open water swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile marathon run, are a great fitness challenge. In these races you start at 7:00 am and must finish by midnight or they turn out the lights and you are given a DNF (did not finish). As a slow "back of the pack" triathlete I often find myself racing into the evening and night. So, what watch would I wear...a Ball of course! While I have a Garmin 910XT to track my mileage, I keep my Ball Pulsemeter Chronometer COSC on my other wrist, focused on finishing before midnight. In the dark I can really see the lume, and it gets me through. Hey, I can even check my heart rate if I need to! Here are pics from the recent Ironman US Championship in New York, where I finished before midnight, and even set a new PR (personal record)!

Awesome. I have run Marathons, but i never considered swimming 2.4 miles in open water and riding 112 miles on a bike beforehand. Awesome Job!!

Wow! That's impressive. I really enjoy Olympic distance Tri's and I've been thinking about a half Ironman. The full distance is serious!
Perseus! Go for the half Ironman! I recommend the Vineman 70.3, a beautiful race in Napa Valley through wine country. I hope to see you out at the races! Keep me informed when you decide to do one. Milt

Great story, thanks for sharing. Weird question, does the accuracy of the watch change when you train/compete with the watch on? Also, did you swim with it on as well?
madamo. I have heard others comment on their watches loosing time when you run fast (There is a series of posts on the Omega forum on this). I wear my Ball on both runs and bike rides and have had no problems....maybe I just run too slow? I did think of swimming with my Ball watch, but changed my mind due to the water quality in the Hudson river. Put it on for the bike and run.

Tuff_Guy_Tony. You gotta join us in the Triathlons! How about the Chicago Triathlon? Great race and great view of Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan (they close down Lake Shore Drive for the bike section). One of the largest triathlons in the world. Love that race. I'll look for another guy with a Ball watch...
