As far as I can tell this is the only G-Shock advertized to be "antimagnetic" on Casio site.

Just curious.

Bought mine six days ago, and haven't taken it off yet - a good sign for a new watch. And yes, I'm curious about the 'antimagnetic' thing too.

Probably there are no Iron, nickel or Cobalt containings parts or coils used in the structure. These are metals or constructions that can be disturbed by Magnetic fields. I think mechanical watches (with many moving parts) are more vulnerable than a digital watch. However the hands indicate analogue time, in fact the hands move in 180 increments (the minute hand moves every 20 seconds 1/3 minute foreward).

I see. So Casio are drawing attention to an advantage over mechanical watches, not other G-Shocks. That makes sense.

Interestingly enough I got mine around that time too. Was a bit disapointed that new muddies are nowhere to be found here in Canada so I got this one.

I'm still impressed just how easy it is to read the time on this one. Nice job. And yes, mine gets lot of wrist time currently but for me that will only last as long as I don't spot new muddie somwhere.

I keep beeing disapointed of choices that Canadian stores make, even Wall Mart. For example wenable 5600 here in canada is nowhere to be found for 2-3 years now.

Strange choices our retail stores make.

Anyhow, thanks for info Sjors, I was guessing the same thing but was wondering if perhaps there is more to the story since they don't advertize this for any other G-Shock.

Actually, Sjors, it'd better contain iron if they want it to be "antimagnetic," at least some on the backplate. Iron is the only material known to science that will "conduct" flux along it's surface rather than allow it to penetrate. To make something resistant to an EMP, all that's done is to encase it in iron... It's a trivial gimmick for a watch.

I'm not sure about a G-100, but the DW-5600E has a rubber shell around it module. I tested my DW-5600E by laying it flat on a JL 13w3v3-4 sub- woofer :think: nothing happen to the display :-! . I work for an after market car stereo importer, so being around large sub, speaker, amps & large magnet is apart of my daily job. The JL 13w3 is a 13 inche sub with a magnet the size of a child head . I mean Stanly knifes, pens and anything metal would get suck to it, but not my G SHOCK :gold .
